The Avengers

We recently heard some cool new info on future Marvel movies and now Firstshowing.net has some more straight from the Marvel Studios President of Production, Kevin Feige. Without further adue.. Bullet points, assemble!

IRON MAN 2 (opens May 7th, 2011)
- The same sense of humor and the tone from the first movie will be carried over to the sequel while adding more characters and living up to the action
- Scarlett Johansson’s character is “two-sides” an assistant to Tony Stark and later revealed to be a character named Black Widow

THOR (opens May 20th, 2011)
- Confirming once again that Chris Hemsworth plays Thor and Tom Hiddleston plays the villain Loki
- Thor takes place on both modern Earth and other worlds like Asgard but the setting will be primarily earth
- Once again, confirming that Donald Blake is NOT part of the story
- Director Kenneth Branagh is not going to use any classic Shakespearian dialogue often used in the comics.

THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA (opens July 22nd, 2011)
- Confirming that it’s going to be a period piece that takes place during WWII
- Will have the same level of fun as Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- Captain America’s sidekick Bucky will be in the movie “in some capacity”
- Commenting on director Joe Johnston, Feige says it will be somewhat of a mix of The Rocketeer and October Sky, and a bit of the ship designs that Johnston did for Star Wars

THE AVENGERS (opens May 4th, 2012)
- Captain America would be involved right from the get go
- Samuel Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are signed on for multiple movies including this
- Villain LOKI will show up quite often

OTHER MARVEL PROJECTS
- Edgar Wright is finishing up another draft of ANT-MAN after he’s done directing SCOTT PILGRIM
- Marvel will announce another New Movie for 2012 within the next few months. What could it be?

Pixar is making sequels (Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Monsters Inc. 2) and Marvel is making a buckload of movies all at once.
I know I’m euphoric, this is a like dreams come true but…
Pixar NOT playing with originality for a while… and Marvel’s releasing too many movies within the same year or two, what we might get is quantity not quality.
Aren’t you a bit worried about this?

I’m just worried about the Pixar sequels.

Marvel’s comic book films have sucked before, so I wouldn’t be surprised if their upcoming ones don’t impress me. I’m used to having a love/hate relationship with their filmography.

Pixar, however, I’m worried about only conceptually. It has nothing to do with the talent behind the films, just the thought of doing them. I love their sequel to Toy Story. It surpassed the original, which is why I’m on board with the third film. A second Cars bothers me. I have no desire to revisit that world. It was a cute film, but certainly not Pixar’s best. This’ll either be an opportunity for them to one-up themselves, or it’ll just be a dragging out of an already passable film.

Monsters, Inc. 2 I’m not sold on at all. Monsters, Inc. had the perfect ending. “Kitty?” Sully smiles warmly. Fade to black. Open ended as heck, and there’s no need for a sequel. People have been saying they want one for the longest time, and I know the only reason is because they wanted to see Boo at the end. If we saw her sitting in her bed, there’d be no buzz for a sequel.

Their only film that actually lends itself for a sequel is The Incredibles. I’m glad they haven’t touched that one, as it’s my favorite Pixar film and it’d be way too hard to top.

    Thanks for the news, Rama!

Yeah, I’m not sure how they’re going to do CARS 2 either.. part of why the first movie was great was Paul Newman as the voice of Doc Hudson..

You’re right about MONSTERS INC 2.. like I said… the first movie concluded itself nicely.

THE INCREDIBLES can go on,.. all they gotta do is throw in some more new villains.. and some more new family problems.

Perfectly stated by both of you. Toy Story 3 is okay by me as they did well with the first two, but those other two I can do without.

And like you, its the Incredibles sequel I am longing for. It is easily my favorite animated feature of all time.
