The man who brought us The Descent is working with Lionsgate again. Via comingsoon.net, Lionsgate has bought the worldwide distribution rights to director Neil Marshall’s next horror/thriller titled BURST 3D which will be produced by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures.
Written by Gary Dauberman, the story is about a group of stranded travelers meet during a blizzard and are stalked by a malevolent force that makes people spontaneously combust.
Bursting into flame in the middle of a blizzard.. I’d say it’s a damn good deal. Ha!
But I just don’t see the significance of the 3D aspect except for.. just to jump on the same bandwagon that everybody else is riding.
In the announcement, Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate President of Motion Picture Production described Marshall as ‘a modern master of horror, suspense, and action’ and the 3D will guarantee horror fans ‘one of the most terrifying and innovative experiences of their moviegoing lives.’
Those execs would say anything to hook you in, wouldn’t they. Gotta love ‘em. I always say though, don’t make promises you can’t keep, because with the stake so high, the harder the fall would be when it doesn’t live up to expectations.
That said, I was one of the few people who thought Doomsday was an exciting post-apocalyptic joyride and I’m very much looking forward to watching more awesome violence in the upcoming movie CENTURION. So I’ll always be anticipating whatever Marshall’s got next up his sleeves… 3D or no 3D.
