What is going on here? Just the other day we heard that Keira Knightley has won the lead role in MY FAIR LADY the remake which is supposed to be directed by her Pride & Prejudice and Atonement director Joe Wright. Report said he took the job because he couldn’t move forward with the project Indian Summer. But now Wright himself told Screenrush that his involvement with MY FAIR LADY is a bunch of bullcrap…
Wright denied being attached to the project as a director because he did play with the idea for a couple of days after the script was sent to him but decided to let another filmmaker take on the responsibility instead. He couldn’t say which other filmmaker Mandrake Pictures has sent the script to and he couldn’t give details on Knightley’s involvement either.
Well, this stinks, Wright has always known how to bring out the best in Knightley. Just like Scorsese and DiCaprio or Burton and Depp, so hearing about Wright NOT directing MY FAIR LADY is a big blow, it will surely affect Knightley’s chance of getting nominated again. If only Wright would reveal to the website Why he chose not to helm this project. What’s so terrible about the script by Emma Thompson?
Knightley is ready to play Eliza Doolittle, a character made iconic by the late great Audrey Hepburn in the story about a misogynistic and snobbish phonetics professor who agrees to a wager that he can take a flower girl and make her presentable in high society
word has it, Daniel Craig be the top candidate for Professor Henry Higgins played by Rex Harrison in the original 1964 version.
