I once heard that for his next performance capture 3D movie, Robert Zemeckis wants to do one on NUTCRACKER, which would give him his own Christmas Trilogy that started with The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol. But this isn’t about Zemeckis and what he wants, this is about NUTCRACKER with firepower, in a battle against the Mouse King…
According to Hollywood Reporter, New Line has bought THE NUTCRACKER AND THE MOUSE KING pitch from Darren Lemke, the writer another fantasy tale gone twisted housed at the same studio, titled JACK AND THE GIANT KILLER, directed by Bryan Singer
But here’s the thing, this isn’t your sister’s NUTCRACKER Ballet… Lemke has re-imagined the classic tale and turned it into an action-adventure movie.
How graphic the violence will be hasn’t been revealed yet but the story centers on a 12-year old girl who receives gifts on Christmas Eve, one of which was a Nutcracker doll. That night, she began an adventure that includes a war against a seven-headed Mouse King and his army of mice.
Yup, that should give you grounds for action. Mice packing heat, Nutcracker with guns, maybe the studio should call Trey Parker and Matt Stone of Team America: World Police for some input.
This is one Christmas eve that’s going to rock!
