When we talk about PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, a sequel that Paramount has been wanting since last October, flashes of the failure of Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows come to mind. If they think that PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 will repeat the success of last year’s box office phenomenon, (Paranormal Activity was made with a budget of under $15,000 but earned $151 Million) boy are they in for a rude awakening. But the inevitable will happen as Heat Vision reported that a writer and a director have been hired to take on the project…
Scribe Mathew R. Perry will write the screenplay while the director of SAW VI, Kevin Greutert will get to helm. Now let me just say yes I’m aware that SAW VI tanked at the box office, it only banked a disappointing $31 Millon worldwide which indicates the franchise is running out of ammo but as fan of SAW movies, I’ll still keep coming back every Halloween season. Speaking of which, Paramount apparently is not patient, it wants to release PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 on October 22nd, 2010 around the same time that SAW VII in 3D is going to hit theaters. Ghost horror and torture porn, which one will win?
The director of the first movie, Oren Peli, who also filmed AREA 51 for Paramount, will only be a producer this time, but he’s guaranteeing the fans that Greutert and Perry will not let them down. I wouldn’t hold my breath, just the fact that Peli’s not directing tells me that even he thinks Paranormal Activity should be left alone as a classic.
Right now, the plot is kept secret and the sequel’s title is also kept under wrap. But what do you think the story should be about?
With SAW VI director in charge of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, maybe this time the ghost will actually talk to the new couple and it’ll tell them “I want to play a game” Ha!
