Wow! I haven’t heard info about TINTIN for quite a while. Back in September, British funnyman, Simon Pegg said that Spielberg suggested that it’d be cool if Pegg and his Hot Fuzz fat buddy Nick Frost play Thompson and Thompson in the big budget adaptation about the fictional investigative Journalist based on the classic Belgian comic series. A suggestion that was taken by Pegg with a loss for words due to overwhelming joy.
Today, Aintitcool has confirmed that it is now official! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been cast as the bumbling, incompetent detectives who look like they could be twins but they’re not related. They wear the same thing with the only difference being the shape of the silly mustache.
To help out in times of this crappy economy, Paramount and Sony are working hand-in-hand to fund this $135 Million 3D Performance Capture project. Another person also already in the gang is Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock. While the search for who’s going to play the lead character, TINTIN continues since actor Thomas Sangster had to drop out due to scheduling conflict. Well, it’s his loss.. because seriously, who on earth would pass up an opportunity to be in a movie directed by Steven freakin’ Spielberg.
Dreamworks will release the first installment in 2010 and the second installment will be directed by Peter Jackson (LOTR, King Kong)
The story will be based on two of the books, The Secret of the Unicorn (You can read the story HERE) and Red Rackham’s Treasure (You can read the story HERE), written by Tintin creator Herge between 1942 and 1944.
