This is not actually an info telling you about new movies that are going to be made but the following statement makes me think a bit about what the target audiences like these days. It’s been said before that the third Narnia film, THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER would be the last one that will be brought to the big screen, Walden with its old partner Disney did not want to adapt another C.S. Lewis‘ book for a while. But now Fox is Walden’s partner in fantasy, you never know what new team has planned. Producer Mark Johnson excitedly told Comingsoon.net about DAWN TREADER
“It’s a whole new franchise, I think it’s really benefiting from it. It’s a slightly different look. This one is different from the others, it’s in that ['Seventh Voyage of Sinbad,' old Harryhausen films] league and they go from island to island having adventures. I’m very excited about it.”
Sounds like Johnson was begging… ‘come on guys please watch this movie, it’s the last one and I promise you it won’t be like Prince Caspian, look we even have the dragonhead’
Prince Caspian flopped at the box office earning only $141 Million domestically after a budget of $225 Million went into production.
I’ll still watch DAWN TREADER but what I’m wondering is.. we know that Narnia franchise failed to defeat Harry Potter but can it go up against today’s Vampire fad? Narnia’s target audiences are too busy loving Twilight, True Blood, the upcoming Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, there’s even that CW series The Vampire Diaries. Kids today are not into Sinbad. Aslan’s fangs might not have any power right now.
