P.S. I LOVE YOU Review

PS I love You
P.S. I LOVE YOU is the kind of chick flick that should’ve been released during valentine season, not in times where movies that are from good to great are racing to be in the category of Oscar contenders. This movie is sweet but not pleasant, okay but… not excellent. It has an interesting concept, some might even say romantic because who on earth or what dying man plans to keep chatting with his girlfriend long before he dies?

PS I love You

I gotta tell ya, the runtime for this movie is way too long. A good romantic comedy/drama should at least be about one and a half hours instead of going over two.
The scenery of Ireland does make you want to visit that land of leprechauns, where drinking beer is like breathing air, but the direction is way too simple… it even comes across as something of a beginner’s effort.

Hillary Swank is a great actress and I think this movie proves that she has a somewhat decent comedic timing, and I hate to say this… but as attractive as I think she really does look, she’s much better playing roles that are boyish, manly and macho (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby).

I think what upsets me the most is that every letter that the character Holly receives from her dead husband, instead of helping her to move on , it just keeps reminding her of the past.

Gina Gershon and Lisa Kudrow serve as the comic relief even when the punch-lines aren’t that funny.
This film has famous stars including Kathy Bates and Harry Connick, Jr. but sadly, the story limits them from reaching their potential or what they can actually do.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is another person from TV’s Grey’s Anatomy trying his luck in the movie business following the steps of Katherine Heigl… His part in P.S. I LOVE YOU is to play Holly’s newfound future boyfriend.
Just like Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a Scottish playing an Irish in this movie… for some reason he kinda looks a lot like Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men)

Bottomline, I’m sure the novel is better than the movie version and it means well and it wants to be a feel-good movie of the season, female audiences might find it charming, a nice movie to see with your spouse or loved one, but remember… it would be much nicer to actually realize this concept while both of you are still alive.

I have to say you sound like a man (a good thing, of course)… You are right about the importance of investing in relationships while you are still alive, and personally, that is the message I got out of this movie. I have watched it twice in the cinema, and both times, I saw couples walking out hugging, smiling, and saying loving things to each other! It is a chick flick, and it’s just the right length for women!
