First we thought he was going to fight evil Mexicans who kidnapped some girl, and then we thought he was going to fight invincible soldiers, and now he’s actually going to fight a creature? The plot for RAMBO 5 can’t seem to make up its mind. AICN again has got its handsĀ on what seems to be the official synopsis for the movie
Rambo has a partner, huh?! Right off the bat that’s an awful idea. Rambo’s supposed to be one man against a whole town of bad guys, that’s what he’s famous for, being a one man army. What the hell is he doing running around with a 22 year old jerkoff who’s probably going to be the dumb comic relief?!
I could tolerate Rambo fighting Universal Soldiers but I draw the line at hunting down some lab animal that can’t die.
John McLane is known for being at the wrong place at the wrong time with a bunch of terrorists, Terminator goes back in time to save John Connor, Statham can kick 50 guys around and win, you don’t mess with the order of things, man! You just don’t suddenly change a group of war rebels or jungle soldiers with one genetically engineered beast! What is this, Rambo’s version of Predator?!
Slashfilm learned that RAMBO 5 might be based on HUNTER, a book by author James Byron Huggins about the world’s greatest tracker and a giant black wolf ghost. Sly bought screen rights some time ago.
Here’s the official synopsis of the book..
“One of Hollywood’s hottest action-film writers, James Byron Huggins is a master at keeping the action rolling and the pages turning. Here, the author of Cain (”may be the thriller of the year” — BookPage), unleashes a lightning-quick tale that pits a man born out of his time against the future’s deadliest creation.
Nathaniel Hunter could track anyone — or anything — on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.
It’s a job that Hunter can’t turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man’s cunning, a predator’s savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.”

I loved FIRST BLOOD cause it was Rambo against several inferior hicktown idiots… even its national guard was full of hick morons. So… a Vietnam veteran in the woods “could possibly” be suprerior. It was fairly realistic.
Then came RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD II (which was ok til the end) and RAMBO III. UGH!!! One man against the freaking world and he wins. I call “Bullshit”. They were much like today’s Statham movies. Ridiculous.
But then came RAMBO (Part 4) and saved the character. Yes, Rambo is still the badass we love… but he was more like the first film. A troubled, emotional man who can’t get away from his war torn past. AND more importantly, he had help in kicking ass. He had some badass (though definitely not as badass as he is) military rejects helping him in the rescue mission. NOW THIS is more realistic. I don’t care if you are CHEV CHELIOS (Crank), FRANK MARTIN (Transporter), JOHN MATRIX (Commando), or RAMBO… you CANNOT kill 200 men all by yourself. At least John McClane takes em out one at a time… not all at once. Sheesh!!! haha
Anyway… I would much rather have the Universal Soldier idea with an elite force backing Rambo up than this stupid MONSTER idea. They might as well call it RAMBO VS SASQUATCH. LOL!!!! I remember that was the in thing back in the 70’s. Remember when Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man, fought Bigfoot in the TV series? LOL! Oh… by the way… Six Million Dollars wouldn’t even cover his bionic eye today. It would be more like the Six BILLION Dollar Man. LOL.
Wow… I really rambled on with this comment. Ooops… sorry. haha
no worries, ramble on.. as long as it’s movie-related my friend lol
I’m just worried about the direction that Sly is taking his Rambo character to… what’s next.. Rambo will fight a bunch of giant robots?! Pretty soon this Beastly plot will become a laughing stock for years to come.
He should just focus on another franchise.. since he loves sequels so damn much.. start writing EXPENDABLES II or something.. ya know.. and be done with RAMBO already.
Speaking of which, my favorite one had to be FIRST BLOOD II.. that went down as one of the most decent sequels of all time, the way he got tortured in that movie was hardcore, man lol
Oh I agree with the First Blood II…. just not the ending. The last 20 minutes of the film (just like Commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger) he kills like 200 men all by himself. Please… get real. I actually liked both Commando AND Rambo: First Blood II… but I think both were ruined in the third acts. That’s what I love about John McClane. His character takes out the bad guys one by one… kind of like Commando and Rambo did in the first two acts… and never has a shoot out with 200 guys and wins.
As for the direction of the Rambo series… I too, agree that going into the sci-fi genre is not the way to go. In fact, you’re right. Rambo has gone full circle. In First Blood, he was hitch hiking home when all hell broke loose in that hicktown with Brian Dennehy. Now… in Rambo IV, he finally gets home in the last scene. THE fucking END! He makes it home. Let it go. That simple. I don’t mind seeing another Rambo film, but only if it makes sense.
In fact, I don’t really condone or enjoy remakes… but maybe the original First Blood is due for one. That film is 27 yrs old. Maybe a young action actor can remake the character… like Worthington? Maybe? I know… I know… Sly IS Rambo, just like Willis IS John McClane… but who knows? Maybe seeing a new young actor rebooting the franchise and playing John Rambo is what the character needs. Not a 60 yr old Rambo fighting a mutant wolfman. Just my opinion.
a FIRST BLOOD remake
now that’s not a bad idea
Worthington is in everything everywhere now so his name should come up on a short list for this type of project… as long as John Cena is nowhere near it lol
But let’s face it though… those old stubborn folks.. Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Sly Stallone just wouldn’t give up their characters and just surrender them to the young ones for a newer version…
Agreed on that…. BUT… sometimes they don’t have a choice. Ever hear of William Shatner giving up Captain Kirk to Chris Pine? I guarantee he didn’t want to haha
Fact is… eventually our good old boys become… well… old. Remember David Soul bitching about Owen Wilson playing his iconic character of Hutch from the Starsky and Hutch TV Series?
I mean… I really wish Willis could play John McClane forever and make 8 movies (like the damn Saw series haha)… but we know that will never happen. Eventually they all have to let it go… and someone new has to take their place. Hell, James Bond has been played by SIX actors…. and four of them can lay claim its THEIR character. Only Lazenby and Dalton can never claim that haha. But seriously… I think its time for a new guy to play Rambo and just remake FIRST BLOOD.
Oh…. and I agree with your John Cena comment LOL
