Ya know, not too long ago, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was just that guy from Grey’s Anatomy, and then bam! After being in WATCHMEN as The Comedian, it’s like his career just got better overnight, the movie didn’t do well at the box office but if you looked him up, you’d find that he’s practically doing one movie gig after another and offers keep showing up at his doorstep like there’s no tomorrow and it doesn’t matter if he looks a lot like Javier Bardem.. in fact it’s like Hollywood has its own version of Javier Bardem who can speak English.
He’ll be seen in the DC/Vertigo comic book adaptation, THE LOSERS, which is still in production but he told comingsoon that he’s joined the cast of RED DAWNS remake which already includes actors younger than him
““Red Dawn”. I just love that fucking movie, ever since I was a kid. I guess I’m more or less the old Powers Booth character. There’s all the kids and Powers Booth is the pilot that lands in the film and kind of helps them take down the bad guys. Blow communism away. It’s a really good, young cast. I’ll be the old guy in it, which is cool.”
Starring Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), that name rings a bell because he’s Marvel’s THOR. Hemsworth will play the role that Patrick Swayze played in the original, Jed Eckert, a marine home on leave and the group’s unofficial leader. Also starring Josh Peck (The Wackness) as Jed’s hotheaded younger brother and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team while Adrianne Palicki will play Toni, a female fighter who develops romantic feelings for Jed.
Josh Hutcherson (Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D) will play Robert, the group’s tech geek. C. Thomas Howell played the character in the original version. Isabel Lucas (Hottie from Transformers 2) will play Erica, a head cheerleader and the girlfriend of Josh Peck’s character’s girlfriend. Lea Thompson played the character in the original. Tom Cruise’s son, Connor Cruise will play Daryl, the son of Spokane’s mayor and Robert’s best friend. Darryl Dalton played the character in the original version
Edwin Hodge (All The Boys Love Mandy Lane) will play Danny, the coolest kid in school and star wide receiver who helps establish the resistance. Brad Savage played the character in the original version.
The original 1984 version starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen is about a band of high school kids calling themselves the Wolverines who decided to fight the Soviets that have invaded their town
The new version, written by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth will be about the teens defending their town from the invading Chinese and Russian soldiers.
Here’s what’s interesting, Morgan also expressed his interest, via Superherohype, in Guy Ritchie’s next project, the adaptation of DC Comics violent alien bounty hunter LOBO, which unfortunately will be PG-13
“[T]hey’re making ‘Lobo’ right now,”
“That would be cool. ‘Lobo’ would be very cool. I don’t think that I’m as big as Lobo is, but if you could, like, transplant Mickey Rourke’s body on my head, that would be just great.”
Morgan just loves doing Comic book-based movie doesn’t he?! In that chat, he said he truly believes that this trend won’t be going away for the next couple of years and he’s got a point. But if he loves this genre so much, then he should just stick with one comic book character and build a franchise on that for years to come just like how Hugh Jackman keeps milking Wolverine,.. instead of jumping from one comic book project to another and somehow calling it versatile.
