IESB’s Robert Sanchez got to talk with 20th Century Fox meister Tom Rothman at the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and being that Sanchez is one awesome dude, he practically bombarded Rothman with heavyweight questions based on reliable sources (check out the interview video) regarding Daredevil reboot, Fantastic 4 Reboot, Predators reboot directed by Robert Rodriguez and a possible James Cameron’s Avatar sighting at this year’s Comic-Con and lo and behold, there are talks about Ridley Scott making a prequel based on his classic ALIEN Movie. Here’s what Rothman was willing to say

“There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing,”

An ALIEN prequel movie directed by Ridley Scott.. do you like that idea? I for one can’t imagine that franchise without Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) so if there was to be a prequel, how would they incorporate her into the storyline? I think they should leave ALIEN alone for now, just for now,..we’ll see about later.

That’s a problem. They CAN’T incorporate Ripley into a prequel. If you remember, in the first Alien, Ripley and company had NEVER seen the alien before. They had never seen the alien that wrapped around John Hurt’s neck, let alone the alien that eventually erupted out of his chest. It was totally new to them… so Ripley is out of the question for a prequel.

So.. I guess the only way to come up with an ALIEN prequel is to do an Origin story, I think..
well, I’m not sure if that’s going to be interesting either..
I hope one of these days we get to hear what Sigourney Weaver thinks about this whole plan.
