The wait is over! No more rumors. It is official! Marvel’s DEADPOOL has become DC’s Hal Jordan. According to Variety and Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is THE GREEN LANTERN, beating competitions that includes Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto after the studio held 2 rounds of screen tests.
Previous info said Producer De Line, Director Campbell each had their favorite and the decision had to be made before this coming Monday, which by then the actors would be free to accept other offers. That was true for the rest, but for Reynolds the option would have expired end of Friday.
THE GREEN LANTERN will be filmed in Australia in January with a budget of about $150 Million. Martin Campbell directing using the script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.
The movie is set to hit theaters June 17th, 2011
Props to Rama’s SCREEN reader moviebuff123 who reminded me that if Bale could do 2 franchises as Batman and as John Connor, certainly Reynolds can be both Deadpool and Hal Jordan as long as there’s no scheduling conflict. Is this necessarily a wise move for the actor? I wonder what Marvel and Fox are going to do in response to this info.
