Sam Raimi Regrets SPIDER-MAN Movies. Promises To Make SPIDER-MAN 4 Better

I’ve been waiting for the day that Sam Raimi would apologize for how despicable Spider-Man 3 was. If only there was some sort of hidden audio tape ala Christian Bale’s temper tantrum, where we’d catch Raimi crying, sobbing saying “sorry Spiderman” a thousand times to himself. The director who’s set to take on SPIDER-MAN 4 talked to LA Times recently and expressed what he’d do differently if he could do all his Spider-Man movies all over again.

What would I have done differently? I would have done everything differently, every single shot. I think in every picture that I’ve ever made. Everything that I’ve done torments me. I really would like another chance except I’d be too embarrassed to ever really try to do them again and no one would want to see the same movie just done differently.

I’d like to think he meant SPIDER-MAN 3 only with that statement….It’s not an apology but it’ll do, despite his flaws, he’s still the man for this franchise (Sony Pictures says so) and we’re just going to have to live with that fact.
Would you want a SPIDER-MAN 3 Reboot? That wouldn’t be so bad, 20 years from now.
But VENOM will have its own movie too, so regrets is all that Raimi has for now. As far as SPIDER-MAN 4 is concerned, he’s made a vow not to disappoint the fans..

I want to make the best [“Spider-Man” movie] of the bunch and I’ve always been touched by Peter Parker in a way that I’ve never been able to describe on film, even though I’ve got a great actor performing it.
In every moment, I’ve got to find some truth and really become the character in my mind. I think I feel a little freer to be able to do that. I’m going to try it.

The article also mentioned that the filming for SPIDER-MAN 4 will begin in February 2010. They’re still working on the screenplay. Still no word on who’s going to be the villain. And as much as I want Kristen Dunst to get recast by someone else, previous info made it clear that Raimi wanted Dunst back in the fourth movie. What a shame!
