We’ve seen the restricted teaser and now Lionsgate has unleashed the theatrical trailer for SEASON OF THE WITCH starring Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman.
Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.
A priest (Moore), a grieving knight (Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.
When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force. Watch the trailer after this jump…

What? Did I miss something in history class? The plague was caused by a witch? Just what we need, a horror film that plots redemption by the destruction of the evil that is woman. Women were supposed to be unnatural and innately evil because they “bled but did not die.” So here we are in the 21st century harking back to those enlightened days. And why is Nic Cage still getting these parts? He’s got his glower down pat but delivers his lines like he’s coming out of deep sleep.

That’s Hollywood for ya, unfortunately
and Nic Cage keeps getting parts because well, my theory is that he’s either a damn workoholic or he just does movies for the paychecks now, not for the art or glory, so getting Nic Cage to do your project is much easier than getting someone that doesn’t “deliver his lines like he’s coming out of deep sleep”
