UPDATE: The previous report said producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman but that is NOT true. Collider says this project is produced by Neil Moritz and Ori Marmur. I’ve made the correction.
This past weekend, the writer who brought us Lethal Weapon movies and the comedy that not many people saw, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Shane Black told Harry of AICN that he’s working on DOC SAVAGE for producers Neil Moritz and Ori Marmur, via Collider. They’re the guys behind the upcoming movies The Green Hornet, Battle: Los Angeles and Jack the Giant Killer…
Have you ever read this 1930s adventure pulp magazine?
DOC SAVAGE was a fictional character created by publisher Henry W. Ralston and editor John L. Nanovic with additional material contributed by the series’ main writer, Lester Dent. He wears torn khaki shirt, according to Wiki, the man whose real name is Clark Savage Jr. is described as a mix of Sherlock Holmes’ deductive abilities, Tarzan’s outstanding physical abilities, Craig Kennedy’s scientific education, and Abraham Lincoln’s goodness
Good luck finding a real life version Doc Savage ladies because he’s practically a renaissance man, too perfect to be true, he’s a physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, inventor, explorer, researcher, and a musician.
Savage is accompanied by five highly accomplished characters known as The Fabulous Five, their nicknames are Monk, Ham, Long Tom, Johnny and Renny
Black went on to tell Harry that the new movie will not be modernized because he believes the character “can not be separated from the 30s”.
He is preparing to write the script. The Fabulous Five will be included and it will capture the feeling of the whole collection of Lester Dent’s work.
There was a cheesy DOC SAVAGE Movie back in 1975 titled Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze starring Ron Ely but it was not a success. Screenwriter George Pal blamed lack of funding. Here’s the old trailer..
