Is it fair to say that Simon Pegg is the new Jim Carrey? One thing for sure, he’s comedy stardom has made him one of the most wanted men in Hollywood. He told The Sunday Times recently that Steven Spielberg, who wants to make a movie version of TINTIN with Peter Jackson, suggested to Simon Pegg that maybe he and Nick Frost could play the characters Thompson and Thompson…

“Steven’s smoking a stogy, cap on head, like he’s always been since I was a baby,” Pegg says, shaking his head in wonder. “I shook his hand and chatted about films. He gave me the mo-cap [motion-capture] camera, and I had a play around with it. Then he said, ‘Hey, maybe you and Nick Frost could play the Thompson Twins.’ In Tintin. A Spielberg movie. To work with him is beyond .. . ” He trails off, lost for words.

The Adventures of Tintin was one of the foreign (Belgian) comic book series that were somewhat popular back where I come from in South East Asia. It may not have been as popular as Doraemon or Dragon Ball Z but kids my age back then did read some of the stories and find it quite entertaining. Hell, I thought it was pretty funny.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost wouldn’t be such a bad idea because even though The Thompson boys look like they could be twins, according the comic book, they’re actually not related, two incompetent, bumbling detectives who, wears the same thing all the time with the only difference being the shape of their moustaches. Besides it’d be funny to see Nick Frost as a fat Thompson.

Last week, it was reported that Universal didn’t wanna finance the project anymore due to the terrible economy and the unreasonable budget to make the movie and I stand by my previous opinion that American youngsters today are not familiar with theTINTINuniverse, I’m not saying canceling the whole thing, but maybe Spielberg and Jackson need to sit down again and strategically come up with a more affordable way of realizing their dreams.
