Singleton wants Woody in THE A-TEAM

Woody HarrelsonCollider caught an interview with Director John Singleton (Boyz N The Hood) and about his upcoming project, bringing my favorite TV series from the 80s: THE A-TEAM to the big screen. Most people of today’s generation might not be familiar with the famous line ‘I love it when the plan comes together’ for the rest of us, Singleton promised that this movie version will be some sort of a homage to 80s action movies. I’ll love it even more when that plan finally comes together.

I’ve mentioned before that though I don’t mind with the rumor that Ice Cube might be playing Mr. T’s iconic role B.A. Baracus, I’ve always had in mind Jim Carrey to play the mental case yet functional character Murdoch.
But Singleton apparently is hoping Woody Harrelson would be the one to do the honor.

For those of you who are not familiar with the series, The A-Team was about four Vietnam war Veteran heroes who were falsely accused of a crime they didn’t commit, they become fugitives of the law while at the same time offering themselves as soldiers for hire to help the oppressed. The series was famous for not having anyone get killed even when bullets were flying.
The movie version, however, will be more relevant to today’s situation. It will not be post-Vietnam era and the story will be more gritty, dark, hardcore with a taste of humor.

Here’s what director John Singleton said about this project so far…

A-Team is going. It’s not a comic movie farce like Starsky and Hutch, it’s kind of in the tradition of the 80’s action pictures, the man’s movies like Die Hard, Predator, Commando, or even Lethal Weapon – more so than anything else. The action is very serious, but there is humor. That’s what we are going for. I don’t know who is in the cast yet, so all this bullshit of who is saying who is this person and who is… nobody is playing Mr. T – the character’s name is B.A. Baracus, he will have a Mohawk and there is a moment in the movie where he actually gets the Mohawk cause he’s going crazy. And I don’t know who is in the cast yet…but I do know that the only person I want right now is, that I really, really want is Woody Harrelson to play Murdock – the guy who is crazy but he’s kind of real smart, a jack of all trades. That’s the only person I really, really want.

Come to think about it.. Singleton does have a point. Woody CAN play this character, especially if Woody acts the way he did in the movie Natural Born Killers without being a murderous psychopath, because Murdock did have a kind side to him.
I can see it now. I remember Actor Dwight Schulz who played Murdock in the series was balding and Woody Harrelson’s also balding. Perfect match.
If Ice Cube gets to play B. A. Baracus, I think he needs to work out to transform himself into a wall of muscle.
Because Cube’s got the bully eyes, he’s got the attitude, but he’s not built like Mr. T was.

The interview goes on to find that the script is done and ready to go. John Singleton is definitely helming the whole thing. Fox will be funding it but no budget has been set yet.
We can assume for now that two are down and there are two more to go.
Who will play Hannibal and who will be the good lookin’ Faceman?
