Peter Sarsgaard was recently cast as the villain Dr. Hector Hammond in the live action movie GREEN LANTERN, starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, directed by Martin Campbell. But what about Jackie Earle Haley playing Sinestro? AICN heard about it last year and SpoilerTV said they were looking for male actor in Mid-30s to Mid-40s, smart, tough, intimidating and in great physical shape. Have anything changed? Hitfix says the studio still wants Jackie Earle Haley to play Sinestro, in fact Haley is their only choice. But turns out, GREEN LANTERN is going to be packed with characters, Legion will be another villain besides Dr. Hector Hammond although it’s unclear how Legion is going to be introduced in the movie.
I’m not familiar with GREEN LANTERN universe but apparently Sinestro wasn’t always a bad guy, he was Hal’s mentor who used totalitarian methods. So there’s a chance that that is what GREEN LANTERN movie is gunning for. They may be setting him up to become the next big villain if the first installment does well box office-wise. Kinda like Batman Begins and Sherlock Holmes where the ultimate nemesis casts his reign of terror in the sequel. But instead of just teasers at the end, Sinestro WILL be in the movie. But still, no confirmation yet about Haley’s involvement, the deal is not locked in at this point.
