Ever since Roman Polanski got arrested in Switzerland in September, the question of what will happen to his new movie THE GHOST has been lingering, reports stated that post-production would be completed by 2010 with or without Polanski. And now the studio behind fangirls and tweens’ phenomenon, TWILIGHT, Summit Entertainment has decided to distribute the movie in North America…
THE GHOST is now re-titled THE GHOST WRITER (We saw the 15 second teaser), Based on the Robert Harris novel, the film tells the story of a ghostwriter (Ewan McGregor) who is hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister, and somehow uncovers secrets that put his own life in jeopardy. The film also stars Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Timothy Hutton, James Belushi, and Tom Wilkinson.
Summit plans to release the movie during the “first half of 2010″
This might be worth watching since this is probably going to be Polanski’s last movie. I’m hoping that house arrest turns into him being sent back to the U.S. for a very long prison time. In 1977, then 13-year-old Samantha Gailey (now known as Samantha Geimer) testified that Polanski performed various sexual acts on her after giving her a combination of champagne and quaaludes. He fled this country to avoid jailtime. The case was documented in Roman Polanski: Wanted And Desired by Marina Zenovich that premiered at Sundance Festival 2008.
THE GHOST WRITER deals with the character British Prime Minister Lang so there is a U.S. connection in the story, that means Polanski had to improvise..certain locations in Germany had to stand in for the story’s New England settings. THE GHOST WRITER marks the first Polanski’s movie with a U.S. setting since Chinatown and that was 1974.
