Superman To Appear in GREEN LANTERN Movie

LanternMark Gugggenheim, the co-writer of the live action feature film project GREEN LANTERN talked to MTV recently about the process of putting all the elements together to make the fans happy, the studio happy, and me who are not a big fan of this particular Superhero to understand better why some people are going nuts over this character. Seriously, what in the green hell is so awesome about GREEN LANTERN?

“This morning, we sat down to talk Green Lantern,” he explained. “And we ended up riffing for an hour and a half on another, much more obscure character. I’m sure the studio wouldn’t be happy about it, but we’re not going to blow the deadline. We’ll get it in.”

“[The changes are] nothing that’s affecting the storyline, really,” he said. “It’s pretty well set. But sometimes we’ll move a scene to a different location for budget purposes, perhaps in an already established location instead of a new one. It’s a question of, which locations can we live without?”It’s a constant process to streamline what you’re going through, even after the film is shot, when you’re cutting things in the edit. That’s what the rewrite process is like, how you sand down the roughness of the a movie to its smoothest.”

Last rumor about who might be cast to play GREEN LANTERN in this movie was Ryan Gosling but nothing’s locked in yet, it’s still a speculation up to this day. In the season of one comic superhero showing up in another comic superhero’s movie ala Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, Guggenheim discussed Clark Kent’s cameo in GREEN LANTERN Movie and who might play The Man of Steel for that brief appearance.

“Brandon Routh or even Tom Welling [in 'Green Lantern'] would be awesome,” he said. “And anything is possible. The beauty part of being the writer, though, is that I don’t actually have to make that judgment call.”

But he also realized that when you have somebody already famous to do SUPERMAN cameo then there’s a risk of pulling the audience out of the film.

Plot:
The “Green Lantern” was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur’s spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was “utterly honest and born without fear.”

Directed by Greg Berlanti for Warner Bros. Pictures, GREEN LANTERN is expected to open in 2010
