A Christmas Carol

Some might get angry if we call it Motion capture, they’d insist the politically correct term is performance capture well either way I don’t wanna say the word ‘performance’ twice in one sentence, hell I’m already grammatically challenged as it is.
But when I saw Disney’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL, I was impressed by Jim Carrey whom we know does have the talent for such physical demanding gigs like this plus those marker-based performance and facial capture suit and gadgets that the actors have to wear while performing the scenes look like they could get uncomfortable.

My question is, do you think there would come a time when someday Oscar would recognize motion-captured performances for Acting categories? Or do you think these types of technological performances are separate and in a completely different category than the traditional acting nominations (Best lead and Best Supporting)?

A CHRISTMAS CAROL Japanese Trailer

Christmas Carol

The Japanese trailer for A CHRISTMAS CAROL is surprisingly much more intriguing than the domestic version. Less screaming and more footage from the movie that takes us to the pain of Ebenezer Scrooge’s past. You actually feel for the old jerk. It also shows us Tiny Tim. Check it out after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »

A CHRISTMAS CAROL 2nd Trailer

Christmas Carol

Disney has released the second trailer for A CHRISTMAS CAROL in 3D directed by Robert Zemeckis, via Apple, which you can watch using the media player below. Compared to the previous trailer, this one starts off with carolers and ‘Joy To The World’ and then Scrooge comes along and takes the fun out of it. I’m beginning to think that maybe Will Ferrell should’ve played the motion capture role instead of Jim Carrey only because there’s lots of screaming involved. At one point, Scrooge literally becomes small and he rides on an icicle. Zemeckis said that he wanted to make A CHRISTMAS CAROL the way Charles Dickens had it in mind because Zemeckis felt the story in the book itself was cinematic.. I’ve never read the book but was a giant icicle part of it?

“Disney’s A Christmas Carol,” a multi-sensory thrill ride re-envisioned by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, captures the fantastical essence of the classic Dickens tale in a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture event. Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Colin Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late.

Another CHRISTMAS CAROL Poster

Thanks to my friend Esteban who alerted me to this new image from A CHRISTMAS CAROL (check out the trailer) over at JimCarreyOnline. It doesn’t have the credits on but I’m guessing this will be the basis for the next poster for this movie. I like it this way though, no need to mention names and taglines.. just the cool artwork and the title.

New CHRISTMAS CAROL Poster

It’s an evening of posters, next stop is A CHRISTMAS CAROL by director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, The Polar Express). Now that the trailer is finally online, the poster is available as well via Cinematical. But I don’t find it as stunning, creative and artistic as the previous fiery poster. Zemeckis said at Comic-Con ‘09 that he believed Charles Dickens‘ classic story was cinematic so he tried to capture it the way it’s intended. I wonder if the look in the artwork above is what Dickens had in mind a long time ago,… but I’m sure he’d be impressed. Bah, Humbug!

Christmas Carol New Image

As previously promised, the teaser trailer for Disney’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL in 3D has hit the web, via Yahoo. This has been around for quite some time now in theaters so I don’t know what took them so long. This movie makes me want to ride the fastest roller coaster, makes me wanna go skydiving again, it’s full of thrill, my kind of movie.. o yeah and it’s a holiday family film too in 3D.

New CHRISTMAS CAROL Image. Trailer Arrives This Sunday Morning

Posted by Rama On September - 11 - 2009

Christmas Carol New Image

Here it is guys! Yahoo has the new image from A CHRISTMAS CAROL, a performance capture 3D re-imagining of Charles Dickens’ classic by director Robert Zemeckis. It’s Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge and Gary Oldman as Marley the ghost. The new trailer will also hit the web on Yahoomovies this Sunday morning, 9/13/09. I hate waking up early on a weekend, but I’d do it for this because it’s been a long wait… all this time all we had was that Italian version.

Comingsoon.net had seen this trailer at the D23 Expo and here is the description..

Expanding from the footage that is currently touring the country on the film’s train exhibit, this trailer gave a glimpse at both the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Future, both played by Jim Carrey (who has eight different characters in the film, including the alternate versions of Scrooge).

The Ghost of Christmas Present appears as a huge, viking-like being with an enormous beard. He’s gigantic and talks down to a tiny Ebenezer Scrooge, who only seems to come up to his ankle.

The Ghost of Christmas Future is only glimpsed at, but is completely draped in a hooded robe with its face completely obscured (very similar to Neil Gaiman’s Destiny in the “Sandman” series).

The trailer also features a segment of the film that seems to have Scrooge in a snowy London street, but shrunk down to inches in height with a squeaky, high-pitched voice.
