Hugh Jackman Is THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH
Ok, that title is arguable because as big of a movie star Hugh Jackman is, most fans would agree that he kinda blew it there with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, one of the weakest prequels ever, I can’t believe it was the movie that opened summer 2009. I’m still haunted by how cheesy the VFX looked.
The Tony award winner Jackman is going to return to his roots, the world he knows best, of singing and dancing because according to Variety, he has signed on to star as P.T. Barnum in the musical movie THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH for 20th Century Fox, to be written by Jenny Bicks (Sex and The City)
The report says “Jackman will play the showman with a penchant for hoaxing a gullible public as he creates the three-ring circus that made him famous. The musical also focuses on his infatuation with singer Jenny Lind, the so-called Swedish Nightingale” the character which will be played Anne Hathaway.
If you watched the previous Oscar ceremony, you would remember the musical number those two actors performed to celebrate Best Picture nominees, I even hear people were surprised to know that Hatahaway got decent vocal skills.
Fox is trying to get British singer-songwriter Mika to write the music and lyrics for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH which w ill also have a contemporary musical score.
I’m not familiar with Mika’s music. Those of you who know her music better than I do might be able to say more on whether or not she’s the right person for this kind of gig. By the way, this project is not to be mistaken for that other SHOW ON EARTH.
New ALICE Image: The White Queen
I apologize for the lack of posts lately, I got caught up in the beautiful scenery of Maui, Hawaii, this place is heavenly. Speaking of heavenly, Empire has a new image of Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, talking to a dormouse, from the upcoming Tim Burton’s 3D sequel movie, ALICE IN WONDERLAND
The story finds Alice, 17, attending a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit, into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years ago but she doesn’t have any recollection about it. The rabbit believes he has found the right Alice.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND 3D opens March 5th, 2010
