Antoine Fuqua Takes PRISONERS
According to Riskybizblog, the man who directed Denzel Washington to win his second Oscar for Training Day, Antoine Fuqua is in talks to direct PRISONERS, a thriller that made quite a buzz earlier this year when Bryan Singer, Mark Wahlberg, and Christian Bale all expressed interest in the project but unfortunately at this point, those big names will most likely not be involved anymore, which is too bad because this could’ve re-united Wahlberg with Bale since their upcoming THE FIGHTER. But no worries, Fuqua doesn’t have problem casting the right actors for the roles, plus he has worked with Bruce Willis (Tears of the Sun), Clive Owen (King Arthur) before so maybe he could give those guys a call.
The hot spec script was written by Aaron Guzikowski, it was initially planned to be housed at a studio but the producers decided to sell it to Alcon Entertainment which then will release the movie via Warner Bros. October 2010. The budget is estimated about $30 – $40 Million just so they could put it on the fast-track. Yeah, that’s understandable, with that low money, there’s no way they can afford Bale, Wahlberg, and Singer. Production will probably start in either January or February.
Here’s the plot for PRISONERS which is considered brooding and dark..
After his 6-year-old daughter and her friend are kidnapped, a small-town carpenter butts heads with a young, brash detective in charge of the investigation. The father is a Bible-reading, deer-hunting survivalist. The cop, meanwhile, can’t wait to get to the city. Feeling failed by the law, the father captures the man he believes responsible and begins to torture him in a desperate attempt to find out what he did with the girls, whom he’s convinced are still alive
Keanu Reeves, Jim Sheridan, And Antoine Fuqua For MORGAN CREEK
Mogan Creek production company got new leadership in the embodiment of Rick Nicita. You might’ve heard some of Morgan Creek’s movies in recent years: Georgia Rule, Sydney White, The Good Shepherd, Exorcist: The Beginning.. I know, not a very good track record right?! I’m surprised the company didn’t close up shop, if I were Morgan Creek I would’ve shot myself long ago.
But new boss Nicita aims to step up to the game by presenting 3 upcoming projects that have have attached big names like Keanu Reeves, director Jim Sheridan (In America) and Antoine Fuque (Training Day).
Nicita expects these three projects to be the vehicles that would bring Morgan Creek back to its glory days in the late 80s and early 90s with hits like True Romance, Pacific Heights, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Young Guns, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Ah yes, the good old days of Morgan Creek.. by the way,.. when I was a naive little brat years ago, I used to think Morgan Creek was named after Morgan Freeman.. ha!
Anyways, via Variety, here are the description of those 3 future projects
* The Sheridan-helmed psychological thriller DREAM HOUSE is about a family that moves to a small town in Connecticut and learns that a mother and her two young children had been killed in their home. The killings were believed to be at the hands of the husband, who survived and may now be a threat to the new residents.
David Loucka penned the screenplay, and Robinson is producing alongside Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger.
* The Reeves starrer PASSENGERS is a sci-fi/romance pic that takes place in the future, as a spacecraft is transporting people to colonize a distant planet. Because of a malfunction, a single passenger (Reeves) is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he awakens a beautiful woman.
The Jon Spaihts-penned script had been developed by producers Reeves and Stephen Hamel. Robinson is also producing.
* The Fuqua helming vehicle SCARPA is based on the true story of Greg Scarpa Sr., a capo in Brooklyn’s Columbo crime family who was also the highest-level mob informant ever developed by the FBI.
Steve Shagan wrote the screenplay. Robinson is producing the crime drama alongside Irwin Winkler.
