Last month, The Trades reported that Vince Vaughn is going to star in an untitled comedy for Universal, to be directed by Ron Howard, with script written by Allen Loeb who penned 21 and the upcoming Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. Not much known about the plot at the time except that it’s “an exploration of the comedic fallout surrounding infidelity between lovers and friends”. Now Deadline Hollywood reported Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) has signed on to star as the friend… Read the rest of this entry »

Columbia Hires Writer Knight To Adapt Dan Brown’s THE LOST SYMBOL
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to attend a Dan Brown book signing but he never comes to town. Granted, he doesn’t have the most sophisticated writing style but his clever combination of facts and fictions is always filled with cliffhangers, you’d lose your sleep just trying to finish his book, wondering what’s gonna happen next as you turn the pages. Back in spring of last year it was announced that a third Robert Langdon movie will happen based on the new book THE LOST SYMBOL and now Variety said Columbia Pictures has hired scribe Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things) to pen the adaptation… Read the rest of this entry »
Henry Hopper And More Join Gus Van Sant’s New Drama
The new drama by director Gus Van Sant (Milk) was initially called RESTLESS, written by first-time screenwriter Jason Lew, it’s described as contemporary and distinctive take on young love. It deals with the complex tale of a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality. But now the drama has become untitled and it’s gained more cast members that are in family connection which more or less is the theme of the story itself… Read the rest of this entry »
The RESTLESS Gus Van Sant
If Slumdog Millionaire wasn’t part of the previous Oscar Race, I’m sure Best Director and Best Picture would’ve easily gone to Gus Van Sant and his inspirational drama Milk. Sean Penn and Dustin Lance Black’s wins on Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay categories were indicators that the movie could’ve swept the rest if it weren’t for the feel-good Mumbay love story.
For his next gig, Van Sant is going to reteam with his Psycho remake fellow producer Brian Grazer for an original work titled RESTLESS written by first-time screenwriter Jason Lew
Just like Nolan’s secretive Inception, the plot for RESTLESS is kept under wraps, but described as contemporary and distinctive take on young love. Hollywood Reporter even included the background story of how this project came to be, he and redhead beauty Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3, Terminator Salvation) attended NYU and Bryce did plays that Lew worked on and so she got a peek at RESTLESS and encouraged him to write it as a screenplay.
Bryce brought it to her father, you might’ve heard of him, a man called Ron Howard who then wanted to develop it for Imagine.
So now Bryce, Ron, and Grazer will be the lead producers
Doug Belgrad and Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project for Columbia Pictures, and they’d like Van Sant to start filming in Oregon with a budget of about $15 million.
The Little MERMAN
Ya wanna hear a pretty cool idea? And I’m not being sarcastic, I think this could be the next big romantic comedy mainly because of the interesting concept. Screenwriter Jennifer Abu Hollander and Jeff Moskowitz came up with it. Check this out.. a merman who comes to land so he can win back his mermaid fiancee, who has left him for a real man.
Ha! I can already imagine how hilarious it’s going to be. The humor will probably rely heavily on the character not knowing how to blend in with the society on land (kinda like what James Marsden’s character did in Enchanted), trying to adjust with everything while trying to win back Ariel.. well her name’s not really Ariel, because if it was, then I’m sure Disney’s going to file a lawsuit faster than you can say Under the Sea.
According to Variety, the script MERMAN has been bought by the big boys Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. And the producer is none other than Brian Grazer who years ago also dealt with half-human half-fish romantic tale called Splash, directed by his friend Ron Howard.
Will Howard direct MERMAN? Don’t know but I sure hope so, it’ll be like old times again. And who do you think should play the lead star?
* In celebration of this info, here’s a hilarious clip from Funny Guy, Lois’ encounter with a Merman
