Last week when Pajiba reported that Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black was writing a biopic of J.Edgar Hoover, simply titled HOOVER, I had no idea that in reality, Black has written it a year ago, but it also should’ve hit me who then would be perfect to direct such an ambitious project. Variety said the great legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood wants the job… Read the rest of this entry »
Clint Eastwood Is America’s Favorite Film Star
Harris Interactive is an American market research company that specializes in public opinion research through all kinds of survey channels inlcuding online polling. They’ve gathered a list of 10 favorite film stars and the honor belongs to Clint Eastwood. Even though Eastwood has called himself retired from acting after Gran Torino, Americans are still die-hard fans of his work. Hell I still watch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on VHS once in a while
And look, John Wayne is in this top 10. Turns out The Duke is the only actor, living or dead, to appear on the list every year. I wonder what he’d think of The Coens’ remaking True Grit.
The poll of 2,276 adults was conducted from Dec. 7-14, 2009. Here are America’s top 10 favorite film stars
- Clint Eastwood
- Johnny Depp
- Denzel Washington
- Sandra Bullock
- Tom Hanks
- George Clooney
- John Wayne
- Meryl Streep
- Morgan Freeman
- Julia Roberts
Do you agree with that list? Who’s your favorite film star this past year?
Clint Eastwood Would’ve Been Batman If The Hughes Bros. Had Made THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS
If think of Batman/Bruce Wayne, which actor runs through you mind, Bale? Kilmer? How bout Clint Eastwood? THE BOOK OF ELI opens this weekend and The Hughes Bros. revealed, via MTV, that they were offered the Batman franchise by WB, specifically to tackle the adaptation of Frank Miller’s famous graphic novel THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS which chronicles the Caped Crusader in his later, aging years… Read the rest of this entry »
IMDB’s 25 Best Movies Of The Decade
Here we go again. Since I’m still out here enjoying the Big Apple waiting for the countdown ball on New Year’s Eve this week, I figured we’d take a quick look again at what others think were the best films of this past decade. Master blogger Peter Sciretta of slashfilm took the liberty of compiling a list as voted by IMDb’s users. Of course, I forgot about Downfall, that was an excellent foreign language film indeed, I should’ve put that one on my list. Christopher Nolan has four of his films mentioned here, making him the most popular filmmaker of the decade. I thought Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream was a thought provoking, well-acted film, but I wouldn’t call it one of the best. And Clint Eastwood’s only best film of the decade was Gran Torino? Really? What about Letters From Iwo Jima or Million Dollar Baby? Check out the whole list after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Bryce Dallas Howard Lives In Eastwood’s HEREAFTER
Bryce Dallas Howard’s next tasks are daunting, Twilight fans are going to be watching and judging if she’s worthy enough to have replaced Rachel Lefevre as the new Victoria, plus her upcoming movie THE LOSS OF A TEARDROP DIAMOND is the late great scribe Tennessee Williams‘ long overdue story, it’s a big responsibility to carry the work of a man who brought A Streetcar Named Desire and Baby Doll to the world. But there’s no stopping Bryce … Read the rest of this entry »
Cecile De France Lives In Eastwood’s HEREAFTER
The Belgian hottie who was bloodied up in Alexandre Aja’s High Tension has joined the cast of Clint Eastwood’s latest attempt on Oscar, HEREAFTER. By the way, will we ever get a Clint Eastwood movie that’s just for fun movie watching experience anymore? I think the last time Eastwood made a movie that’s not aimed to be all Oscar worthy were Bloodwork and Space Cowboys. After that it’s always been about trying to get another statuette for the old man… Read the rest of this entry »
A SINGLE MAN New Trailer
We’ve previously seen the promo trailer for A SINGLE MAN, a movie that premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and now TWC has released the theatrical trailer which contains quotes from critics praising Colin Firth’s performance. Firth to me has always been one of those underrated actors who sadly got typecast, most of his characters either in Bridges Jones Diary, What A Girl Wants, Accidental Husband, he was always the uptight upstanding Brit citizen. Of course I can’t picture him as James Bond either but then I saw And When Did You Last See Your Father? that’s when I realized that Firth is a better actor that Hollywood gave him credit for. His moment has finally arrived with A SINGLE MAN directed by Tom Ford. Check out this absolutely beautiful trailer, the cinematography itself deserves to get nominated.
One thing worries me though, this means the Oscar for Best Lead Actor is not guaranteed for Sam Rockwell (Moon) to win.
A SINGLE MAN opens on a tough weekend, the same weekend as Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and Clint Eastwood’s Invictus

INVICTUS Inspiring Trailer
What is this, the Matt Damon day? Earlier today we just watched the trailer for GREEN ZONE and now Apple has the trailer for INVICTUS, a true story drama directed by the great Clint Eastwood. By the way, my friend apparently has met the legendary filmmaker and she said he wasn’t much a friendly old man.
The trailer does have the sign ‘Oscar worthy’ written all over it especially Morgan Freeman’s portrayal of Nelson Mandela. Just like Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon, Freeman doesn’t aim to appear like Mandela, he wants to embody his charisma. And Damon’s accent is nothing like Leo DiCaprio’s in Blood Diamond. INVICTUS might end up as one of the 10 nominations for Best Picture of the Year but too soon to tell.I just hope this biopic won’t end up as bland and ordinary as Amelia.. Yahoo has the poster for the Clint Eastwood-directed INVICTUS starring Morgan Freeman as the great Nelson Mandela. Check out the complete artwork after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Matt Damon Lives In The HEREAFTER For Clint Eastwood
UPDATE: Movieline cracked the plot. It’s got its hands on Peter Morgan’s script and turns out HEREAFTER is not quite the thriller as it’s described. The story goes global, it’s a drama starring 3 people living in 3 different parts of the world and they’re all dealing with the questions of life after death. Matt Damon plays the guy who can see dead people. Head on OVER THERE to read more
Still waiting for the trailer for INVICTUS, (check out the first official image) the next Oscar worthy true story movie by director Clint Eastwood starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as rugby Athlete Francois Pienaar, it’s what’s going to challenge Peter Jackson’s THE LOVELY BONES which opens on the same weekend of December 11th, 2009
According to Variety, Damon will team up again with Eastwood for HEREAFTER, a project that Eastwood has been eyeing for quite some time now, it’s a supernatural thriller about… well, sadly the plot is still kept under wraps. I don’t like it when there’s too much secrecy, I just hope it pays off with great twists and turns. By the way, word has it, the story is described to be in the same spirit as The Sixth Sense. Make of it as you want right now, until we hear further.
Production for HEREAFTER will start this fall, written by one of the most respected screenwriters of our generation, Peter Morgan, nominated for Frost/Nixon and The Queen. His spec was bought by Dreamworks back in March 2008 when it was still with Paramount but now the project is housed at Warner Bros
Matt Damon has proven himself to be a busy man, he’s got THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, LIBERACE, THE BOURNE 4 in his pocket, there are rumors of ROUNDERS 2 as well.
