In my book, Jeffrey Wright is a great actor. If you’ve seen him in the old HBO’s miniseries Angels In America, you’d know what I’m talkin’ about. Which is why it bugs me that he doesn’t get to do much in Daniel Craig’s James Bond movie, Wright deserves better role, better screen time than that. We’ll see if that’s the treatment he’ll get in SOURCE CODE.. Read the rest of this entry »
Vera Farmiga And Michelle Monaghan Go Straight To The SOURCE
According to Heat Vision, the woman whose curvaceous behind gave Up In The Air a wow factor, Vera Farmiga, and the woman who ran around panicking with Labeouf in Eagle Eye, Michelle Monaghan, have joined the cast of SOURCE CODE, a sci-fi thriller to be directed by Duncan Jones whose achievement last year, Moon unfortunately would not get a shot at the Oscars thanks to the unmotivated Sony Pictures Classic. SOURCE CODE stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Summit Entertainment is in charge of distribution… Read the rest of this entry »
Sony Explains Why MOON Doesn’t Get A Fighting Chance At Oscar
When I was in NYC for New Year’s Eve, I heard about the info on Sony not wanting to push Duncan Jones‘ excellent Sci-Fi flick MOON for Oscar’s consideration. Jones himself who’s been pushing for at least a nomination for Sam Rockwell’s excellent one man performance tweeted his upset at Sony’s lack of effort for MOON’s Oscar campaign, it didn’t even want to send screeners to voters. According to Movieline, Sony’s reason for this decision is due to fear of piracy… Read the rest of this entry »
Duncan Jones And Jake Gyllenhaal Go Straight To The SOURCE
Turns out, Duncan Jones‘ next gig is not MUTE after all. He’s still in the process of writing the screenplay so while we’re waiting for that, the filmmaker who’s been working hard trying to get his Moon star Sam Rockwell receive the Oscar consideration, has found himself another project to keep him busy, SOURCE CODE. According to Variety, Jones will direct with Jake Gyllenhaal as the star… Read the rest of this entry »
Get Sam Rockwell Nominated For MOON!
One of the best performances by an actor this year, hands down, was delivered by Sam Rockwell who played astronaut in the phenomenal sci-fi movie MOON by director Duncan Jones. I stand by my opinion in my review when I said that if Jack Nicholson had One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Robert De Niro had Raging Bull, Sam Rockwell had MOON.
Which is why I’ve joined a campaign to get Rockwell nominated for an Oscar, the campaign that was started by Jones himself and are currently being promoted by great movie blogs like slashfilm and Collider… Read the rest of this entry »
Unused MOON Posters
We’re still in the post-Emmy mood. The trades are reporting who won and who didn’t and who wore the best dresses, you know the drill. I watch TV but I don’t care much about Emmys as much as I do Oscars, although I am happy for Tina Fey’s 30 Rock, that is by far the funniest series to ever hit the small screen since Seinfeld. I know, some of you probably think ‘how dare you Rama putting Seinfeld over Friends, or Cheers, or I Love Lucy‘.. hey, I got my opinion and you have yours and besides, the show about nothing wasn’t meant for everyone to enjoy, that’s fact.
So while we’re anticipating for more movie info to hit the fan.. ehm. I mean to hit the web, Quietearth kept itself busy this weekend, it’s got its hands on some legit posters for one of the best sci-fi movies of the year, MOON, (Check out my review) that wasn’t used by theaters, but then again Sony Pictures Classic in all its weird wisdom decided to release it limited instead of nationwide.
I’m just hoping the Oscars won’t forget Sam Rockwell’s brilliant performance when it’s time to hand the golden statuette.
These are some cool artwork though, it’s a shame theater-goers never got to see them. Amazon UK says MOON will hit DVD and Blu-Ray on November 16th, 2009, I’m sure we here in the U.S. would get it around the same season or possibly December.
MUTE Concept Art
Ever since the excellent sci-fi drama Moon starring Sam Rockwell in his brilliant performance, I decided that I was going to become a faithful follower of director Duncan Jones and definitely can’t wait for whatever he’s got up his sleeves. This past summer, it was said that his next gig is not an adaptation of ESCAPE FROM THE DEEP but another sci-fi titled MUTE which will reunite Jones with Moon producer Stuart Fenegan. The budget this time will be $25 Million compared to $5 Million to make Moon. MUTE has been described as a project in the similar spirit as Blade Runner, a futuristic sci-fi/action/thriller. It’s actually something that Jones has been wanting to make for quite some time, he even talked io9 about how the movie would have a couple of unique villains and how “normal people having to live in this future city… and how they’ve maintained their humanity in these science-fiction settings. Or the opposite, why their humanity starts to be eroded. When they started to lose their humanity because of the world that they live in”
MUTE is about “a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city’s gangsters.”
Latinoreview got the first concept art from MUTE via LibertyFilms and I can see how it would have that Blade Runner look to it. I just hope it’s not trying too hard to appear like the Ridley Scott classic.
“[It's] a big future-city-based thriller; very, very different from Moon but hopefully as smart and hopefully, you know, it will be character-focused but it’s — again, like Blade Runner it’s a big film and it’s more action-oriented and I think it could be really good.”
Duncan Jones' Next Is MUTE
One of the best movies of this year, hands down, was Moon (Check out my review) directed by visionary filmmaker Duncan Jones, starring the excellent Sam Rockwell in the lead. If you haven’t seen that movie, then you need to put that in your must-see list. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
Although previous info stated that Jones’ next gig would be an adaptation of ESCAPE FROM THE DEEP by author Alex Kershaw who’ll also be writing the screenplay, ScreenDaily reported otherwise, that Jones’ next gig is actually MUTE which will reunite Jones with Moon producer Stuart Fenegan. The budget this time will be $25 Million compared to $5 Million to make Moon.

Production starts next year and I’m keeping a close eye on this one.
Duncan Jones ESCAPES FROM THE DEEP
The man in the picture above is Duncan Jones, he may well be the next Nolan or Aronofsky because his movie MOON was a hit at the Sundance this year and I can’t wait til June 12th, 2009 to see Sam Rockwell survive 3 years alone with a computer on the moon and the psychological madness the work will have on him (check out the trailer).
According to Hollywood Reporter, Jones’ next gig won’t be an original work, it’ll be an adaptation of the book titled ESCAPE FROM THE DEEP by author Alex Kershaw who’ll also be writing the screenplay.
Here’s the official synopsis of the book..
“By October, 1944, the U.S. Navy submarine Tang was legendary-she had sunk more enemy ships, rescued more downed airmen, and pulled off more daring surface attacks than any other Allied submarine in the Pacific. And then, on her fifth patrol, tragedy struck-the Tang was hit by one of her own faulty torpedoes. The survivors of the explosion struggled to stay alive in their submerged “iron coffin” one hundred-eighty feet beneath the surface. While the Japanese dropped deadly depth charges, just nine of the original eighty-man crew survived a harrowing ascent through the escape hatch. But a far greater ordeal was coming. After being picked up by a Japanese patrol vessel, they were sent to a secret Japanese interrogation camp known as the “Torture Farm.” They were close to death when finally liberated in August, 1945, but they had revealed nothing to the Japanese-not even the greatest secret of World War II.”
MOON Trailer
The trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller MOON has arrived via IGN. It premiered last January at the Sundance, it has received praises from those who think this could be the next big thing this year especially for Sam Rockwell’s excellent performance and freshman director Duncan Jones. The visual FX looks impressive. I also like how the computer (voiced by Kevin Spacey) kinda reminds me of Hal from Space Odyssey but I’m sure the mystery and the conclusion for this would be much more mindblowing and out of this world. If I were left on the moon all by myself for so long, I’d go crazy too.
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter while stranded on the moon for a three-year period.
Sam Bell is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He’s been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth’s energy crisis. Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement. But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him… and the new recruit is eerily familiar. Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It’s more than his contract that is set to expire.
MOON opens June 12th, 2009
