Jim Carrey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ed Helms, Will Ferrell

I’m watching SUPERBOWL right now but since it’s halftime, I figured I’d tackle these 2 info that arrived this past weekend via Deadline Hollywood, in a recent article about studios hiring newcomer directors so they won’t spend too much money on already established directors,so here they are… Read the rest of this entry »

the-hangover

If you’d recall, talks of THE HANGOVER 2 already started before The Hangover was even released this past summer, the studio acted simply on how well it was received at test screenings. The hilarious movie about three guys who can’t remember what happened the night before in Vegas and lost their groom friend went on to become the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time banking $277 Million domestically. The sequel hasn’t been greenlit yet and thank God for people like Zach Galifianakis who’s not hasty about jumping in for second round if the script is not right. Speaking of which, director Todd Phillips recently talked, via EW, to give the world updates on the development of THE HANGOVER 2Read the rest of this entry »

THE HANGOVER For Best Picture? Ha!

Hangover

Firstshowing noticed something odd while flipping through Variety online pages, they stumbled upon a ‘For Your Consideration’ ad but the movie in discussion is not what anyone would quickly consider as Oscar Worthy, it’s THE HANGOVER, the funniest movie of the year and the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time.
The website thinks this is not a prank or a joke since it is plastered on a legit solid movie news site, but it also thinks that this maybe to get THE HANGOVER considered for Golden Globes Award for Best Picture in Comedy/Musical category rather than for an Oscar.
But remember, the Oscars will now have 10 nominees for Best Picture, do you think a movie like THE HANGOVER would have the slightest chance at all? Are Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis best supporting materials? Does a comedy have to be a dramedy (drama/comedy) like Little Miss Sunshine and Juno to even get nominated?

John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver, Ed Helms, Anne Heche

Real quick now, even though John C. Reilly hangs out with Will Ferrell and recently disappointed me in the crappy Vampire’s Assistant, trust me, do NOT watch that movie, but I still have respect for the Oscar nominated actor who in his next gig will be collaborating with the star of the biggest R-rated comedy of all time, Ed Helms (The Hangover). Variety says Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), Anne Heche (Spread) and Alia Shawkat (Whip It) have joined the cast of CEDAR RAPIDS for Fox Searchlight… Read the rest of this entry »

Fleischer Is HOME?

Posted by Rama On October - 13 - 2009

Ruben Fleischer

After watching the super awesome Zombieland, I vowed to watch whatever director Ruben Fleischer’s going to make next. But I think I may have spoken too soon and now I’m thinking of taking my vow back because Fleischer’s next doesn’t come close to the word awesome.
According to Hollywood Reporter, if the deal is locked in, Fleischer may be the director of the comedy DADDY’S HOME with Will Ferrell and Ed Helms in the lead roles
The story is about a divorced man (Ferrell) whose ex-wife gets re-married to an uptight guy (Helms), hilarity ensues when Ferrell shows up in his old house meeting the new family.
Expect Ferrell playing a typical immature character who screams and yells a lot.
All these three individuals are still loosely attached to this project housed at Paramount, so if lady luck is on our side, there’s a chance this doomed collaboration may not have to happen at all.
Other projects that Fleischer is eyeing thanks to the success of Zombieland are NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH which Ferrell and Dobkin left behind not too long ago, and 21 JUMP STREET The Movie written by Jonah Hill.
I’d rather have Fleischer bring us ZOMBIELAND 2 instead of these jokers they call projects.

John C. Reilly Lives In CEDAR RAPIDS With Ed Helms

John C. Reilly, Ed Helms

Real quick now, because these two individuals deserve it, according to Hollywood Reporter, Oscar nominee John C. Reilly has signed on to star in CEDAR RAPIDS for Fox Searchlight, already starring Ed Helms who successfully cracked us up this summer in The Hangover.
Directed by Miguel Arteta, written by Phil Johnston, it is an ensemble road-trip comedy about a wholesome and naive small-town Wisconsin man (Helms) who, when his role model dies, must represent his company at a regional insurance conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where his mind is blown by the big-town experience.
Reilly plays a family man, who attends the conference and sees it as a vacation and time to let loose.
This should be an interesting concept, two guys with two different perspectives about the event. I’m thinking one is bumbling, nervous, and in awe while the other is laid back and happy-go-lucky
But I’m still waiting on Reilly returning to musical drama again, the man is too talented to just get stuck in comedy (Walk Hard, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, The Promotion)

Steve Carell Gets DUMPED By WB

I admit, the title above sounds a exaggerated,.. the fact is WB or any studio for that matter, didn’t fire Steve Carell .. because let’s face it, he’s one of the hottest commodities today when it comes to comedy.
The right info is according to Variety, WB has bought the rights to the novel DUMPED by author Andrew Gottlieb about a man searching for new meaning in his life after his wife abruptly files for divorce.
Steve Carell will play the lead and Vic Levin will write the adapted screenplay.
Judging from the plot, Carell is the right man for the job, considering how well he did with drama/comedy in Little Miss Sunshine and Dan In Real Life.

In the same article, it also reveals that Carell’s The Office co-star Ed Helms who plays Andy Bernard in the series and can be seen in the upcoming comedy The Hangover, will also have his own movie and Carell’s production company CAROUSEL is going to help make the project happen.
Helms and Jacob Feischer wrote the script about a Civil War reenactor/history buff who gets accidentally transported back to the Civil War with three buddies who have to find a way home without altering history. Interesting concept.
We’ll see if Ed Helms has what it takes be the next comedy star.
