Posted by Rama On March - 1 - 2010

The Hobbit

Back in August, director Guillermo Del Toro, in charge of helming one of the biggest, most ambitious projects that a filmmaker can experience, spending a few years adapting THE HOBBIT with producer Peter Jackson and friends, openly denied 3D rumor for the 2-part Middle Earth prequel epic. But just like Michael Bay, even AVATAR managed to persuade GDT to think the possibility of Bilbo Baggins in 3D.. Read the rest of this entry »

The Hobbit

I knew it! I knew this MGM crap fiasco was going to find it way around and back to bite THE HOBBIT again. The first of the 2 part Tolkien adaptation, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, was supposed to open in December 2011 while the 2nd part is set to open the year after, but now in a recent Variety article about New Line Cinema, WB studio executive Alan Horn implied that Part I might not even hit theaters until late 2012… Read the rest of this entry »

Is Tobey Maguire THE HOBBIT’s Bilbo Or Not?

Posted by Rama On January - 18 - 2010

Tobey Maguire

Here we go again, another round of wondering if Tobey Maguire would play Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming 2 part Tolkien adaptation THE HOBBIT directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Last month, Latinoreview said that Maguire is in the early stages of talks between CAA and the producers of THE HOBBIT for him to play hairy feet Bilbo Baggins! Mainly because While promoting the film Brothers at the Four Seasons in New York last month, Maguire was asked which director he would like to work with next, he answered Guillermo Del Toro and that they may have something in the near future. But TheOneRing shot down the rumor and today, it had to do the same thing all over again… Read the rest of this entry »

The Hobbit

Real quick now, only because it’s past midnight right now where I am and I really gotta get some serious sleep. According to Production Weekly’s tweet, the 2-part Tolkien adaptation epic, THE HOBBIT will start shooting this June in New Zealand and filming will take about 14 months, directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Check out the recent Casting call which gives you the character breakdown and the type of actors they want to play the roles and also see how you can audition.
Damn MGM is still waiting for a new owner, a situation which may or may not affect the chances of the production receiving a greenlight, but New Line/Warner Bros. are still set on releasing THE HOBBIT Part 1 in December 2011 and Part II in December 2012

Mark Pellington To Direct THE ORPHANAGE Remake

Mark Pellington The Orphanage

A couple of months ago, Larry Fessenden revealed that he was no longer attached to direct of THE ORPHANAGE the remake that New Line was developing, due to creative differences, but he still hoped the studio would still use his script that he co-wrote with Guillermo Del Toro who helped bring the original Spanish language version Il Orfanato directed by GDT’s other entourage, Juan Antonio Bayona, a movie that I considered one of the scariest of 2007. Variety says the project now has found itself a replacement director.. Read the rest of this entry »

Guillermo del Toro

Last week, it was announced that the casting for the 2-part adaptation of Tolkien’s classic THE HOBBIT has begun. Producer Peter Jackson said that they only role taken right now obviously is Gandalf which will be played once again by the great Sir Ian McKellen, but other characters are fair game and they’re not looking for particular star power A-list names either because he believed Tolkien’s middle earth story is the lead show. Director Guillermo Del Toro talked, via theOneRing.net, and said that there are only going to be 3 actors from Lord Of The Rings franchise who will return for THE HOBBIT but he didn’t reveal particular names… Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Rama On November - 30 - 2009

peter_jackson_hobbit

Not too long ago, the great Peter Jackson told the world that they’ve finished the first script for THE HOBBIT which comes in 2 parts. They delivered the script to the studio and they’re very happy about it. Sounds like it’s going to be smooth sailing from here on out right? Nope, not even close. If you recall, Sir Ian McKellen a.k.a Gandalf once said that shooting would most likely start in Spring 2010 but Jackson just gave another update via Moviereporter.net, thanks to TheOneRing.net for the translation… Read the rest of this entry »
