Tarantino Goes Medieval On Helen Mirren?

Helen Mirren Quentin Tarantino

This recent rumor is via Digitalspy and The Sun, so take this with grain of salt for now because these those sources are about as reliable as Megan Fox promising you sex. The rumor goes that the great Quentin Tarantino asked the great Helen Mirren (The Queen) to play a monarch in his next project which is said to be a medieval movie.

“It will feature his trademarks – bloody violence and foul language. Helen has never worked with Tarantino and is interested. If the film goes into production it’s likely she will play a part.”

I can already picture what the next rumors will be… Tarantino has asked Peter O’Toole to play a cyborg in his upcoming futuristic movie which will still be violent and foul-mouthed… or Tarantino has asked Abigail Breslin to play a civil rights hero in a movie set in the 60s but it will still be Tarantino’s usual non-linear structure story with bloody violence and foul language.

The Last Station

This movie made its way to Telluride Film Festival this year and Sony Pictures Classic is going to release it in limited cities this December. I’m not sure if it has any chance at all in the award season but I’d watch whatever Paul Giamatti has in store, the man is a brilliant actor. O, alright, you can watch it for James McAvoy. Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren

UPDATE: Heat Vision has confirmed the following info and Helen Mirren will indeed be in RED playing “an old associate with a lethal set of skills.”

In a recent article over at Screendaily, it was revealed that the great Helen Mirren, or some would call her old hottie, and by ’some’ I meant me, mainly because of this.. has joined the adaptation RED alongside Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. Based on the Wildstorm/DC Comics book series published in 2003 and 2004, written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner. Willis would portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin comes a-callin’ to threaten him and his girlfriend… Read the rest of this entry »

Emile Hirsch Says His HAMLET Is A Supernatural Horror

Back in June, it was announced that director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) and actor Emile Hirsch (Milk, Speed Racer) are working to bring a new take on Shakespeare’s HAMLET. The story will be set in contemporary America, but will have the same themes, Hirsch actually came up with the idea and Oscar winner scribe Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia) writes the screenplay. It was described as a suspense thriller but what we didn’t know was that it’s also going to be a supernatural horror flick. This is what Hirsch said to Collider

I’m working on a modern-day younger adaptation of “Hamlet”, in verse, molded to be almost like this supernatural horror movie. Where it’s not a horror-slasher movie, it’s like a suspense-horror. It’s almost like mixing “Hamlet” with “The Shining
” a little bit and making this kind of scary/cool vision of the play. But all geared towards–all the cast will be much younger and it’s geared towards a younger audience.

Sounds like it’s going to be more worth-watching than that HAMLET in  3D plan.
Hirsch’s HAMLET will start production in October. And then there’s also that TEMPEST movie starring Helen Mirren as the female Prospera. Maybe these will shift today’s young audiences’ fad from Vampires back to Shakespeare.
