Here it is! My list of best of the best of 2009. Obviously most of them are drama, while some may carry certain dramatic elements without going too far astray from their nature that’s either sci-fi, comedy, or action. Some are original work while others are adaptations. Some will inspire, some are heart-breaking, some are just the most fun you’ll ever have in theaters. Point is, these movies are absolute superior when it comes to storytelling. If you haven’t watched ‘em yet, then you’re definitely missing out. Here’s my list of top 10 greatest movies of 2009, in order of awesomeness, after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Quentin Tarantino’s Top 8 Movies Of 2009.. So Far
Quentin Tarantino has picked his top 8 movies of 2009 but he hasn’t seen AVATAR, INVICTUS and THE LOVELY BONES yet to decide whether or not they should be considered. Let me save you some time, Tarantino, THE LOVELY BONES was a major let down.
Check out his list and the vibrant video below after the jump. I’m surprised he included Observe And Report, I thought the movie was hilarious but one of 2009’s best? And I gotta check out that Thai movie Chocolate, if Tarantino says it’s great, then it’s gotta be worth watching. He also said he needs to re-watch District 9 again to make his final decision… Read the rest of this entry »
INVICTUS Review

Actor’s director Clint Eastwood has got himself another winner. INVICTUS is inspiring, triumphant, and masterful. It’s one of those rare gems that will leave you in awe, not so much because of the technicalities but because of… Read the rest of this entry »
Jennifer Hudson Is WINNIE
Jennifer Hudson will star in WINNIE The Pooh… ehm… sorry, that’s not it, let me try again, according to Variety, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) will star in the biopic WINNIE about the former wife of the great Nelson Mandela. This could be another Oscar shot for the actress/singer who got her statuette doing her first movie ever. Man, I bet every actor in Hollywood who’s been waiting tables, struggling to catch a big break was jealous of her that day when her name was mentioned at the Kodak Theater. Mandela himself will be played in a separate separate story INVICTUS, by Morgan Freeman (check out the trailer)… Read the rest of this entry »
A SINGLE MAN New Trailer
We’ve previously seen the promo trailer for A SINGLE MAN, a movie that premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and now TWC has released the theatrical trailer which contains quotes from critics praising Colin Firth’s performance. Firth to me has always been one of those underrated actors who sadly got typecast, most of his characters either in Bridges Jones Diary, What A Girl Wants, Accidental Husband, he was always the uptight upstanding Brit citizen. Of course I can’t picture him as James Bond either but then I saw And When Did You Last See Your Father? that’s when I realized that Firth is a better actor that Hollywood gave him credit for. His moment has finally arrived with A SINGLE MAN directed by Tom Ford. Check out this absolutely beautiful trailer, the cinematography itself deserves to get nominated.
One thing worries me though, this means the Oscar for Best Lead Actor is not guaranteed for Sam Rockwell (Moon) to win.
A SINGLE MAN opens on a tough weekend, the same weekend as Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and Clint Eastwood’s Invictus

INVICTUS Inspiring Trailer
What is this, the Matt Damon day? Earlier today we just watched the trailer for GREEN ZONE and now Apple has the trailer for INVICTUS, a true story drama directed by the great Clint Eastwood. By the way, my friend apparently has met the legendary filmmaker and she said he wasn’t much a friendly old man.
The trailer does have the sign ‘Oscar worthy’ written all over it especially Morgan Freeman’s portrayal of Nelson Mandela. Just like Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon, Freeman doesn’t aim to appear like Mandela, he wants to embody his charisma. And Damon’s accent is nothing like Leo DiCaprio’s in Blood Diamond. INVICTUS might end up as one of the 10 nominations for Best Picture of the Year but too soon to tell.I just hope this biopic won’t end up as bland and ordinary as Amelia.. Watch the trailer after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

INVICTUS First Image
Director Clint Eastwood’s last films Gran Torino and Changeling got great reviews but failed to receive Best Picture nominations. We’ll see if he could bring back that Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima mojo with his upcoming possible Oscar contender INVICTUS. Blog Cineast.ch has the first look image from the movie. As you can see above, it’s Morgan Freeman as the legendary Nelson Mandela having a conversation with Matt Damon as rugby Athlete Francois Pienaar.
Freeman got that Mandela posture down pat, complete with the slouch and the right white hair color. What an extraordinary actor playing an extraordinary human being.
The film tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa’s underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.
INVICTUS opens December 11th, 2009
Look At Freeman As Nelson Mandela
All this time, everything we’ve seen about Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela biopic have been those set photos of Eastwood and very blonde Matt Damon in South Africa but no sighting of Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela yet.. until now.
emailjokes has some new set photos that finally gave us a first look image at Freeman as Mandela. Frankly, he looks just like himself. Maybe if the photo had him wearing a suit and facing the camera so we can do some kind of comparison but I guess we’ll just have to wait until any type of official image is released.
It was recently announced that the title’s changed from THE HUMAN FACTOR to INVICTUS and the release date is December 11th, 2009
The story centers on a rugby star Francois Pienaar whose team won the 1995 world up and along with former South African president Mandela created an event that gave the South African whites and blacks together for a common cause as the country healed from years of apartheid.
Clint Eastwood's INVICTUS Opens Dec 11. Goes Up Against Jackson's BONES
Just recently it was announced that Clint Eastwood’s new movie, a Nelson Mandela biopic, initially titled THE HUMAN FACTOR is now called INVICTUS based on a title a short poem written by William Earnest Henley and published in 1875 and it was a great source of inspiration for Mandela.
The potentially Oscar worthy drama centers on a rugby star Francois Pienaar, played by Matt Damon, whose team won the 1995 world up and along with former South African president Mandela, played by Morgan Freeman, created an event that gave the South African whites and blacks together for a common cause as the country healed from years of apartheid.
According to Variety, INVICTUS now has a release date and that is December 11th, 2009. But that also means it will be in competition with another potentially Oscar worthy movie, THE LOVELY BONES, an adaptation directed by Peter Jackson (Check out the first images)
And what comes one week after those two hit theaters? James Cameron’s AVATAR!
Fall season sounds just as exciting as Summer blockbuster season, doesn’t it?
