Jason Segel’s THE CHEAPEST MUPPET MOVIE EVER MADE
It takes a year and one summer for us to finally come to this point ever since the announcement that Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) said he wanted to bring THE MUPPETS back to the big screen. He pitched the idea in and Disney loved it and now…at D23Expo, Disney announced the title of the project… THE CHEAPEST MUPPET MOVIE EVER MADE
Written by Jason Segel of course but comingsoon said he might be basing it on an old title that was developed by Jim Henson in 1985 but was never produced, the story would’ve had Gonzo directing a Hollywood film and blowing the budget so the rest of Gonzo’s film had to be shot in same back lot, redressed to look like different locations from around the world. This is completely different than Segel’s previous idea about Muppet characters putting on a show to save an old theater and an evil character who wants to tear the place down to get at the oil underneath. We’ll wait and see for the announcement on which plot they decided to go with for the movie.
Jason Segel THE ADVENTURER
Maybe part of the reason why Judd Apatow’s newest comedy, Funny People earned a so-so money at the box office is because Jason Segel is not in the movie. Apatow could’ve put in that Dracula song from Forgetting Sarah Marshall somewhere just for the hell of it, plus the bromance between Sandler and Rogen wasn’t quite as hilarious as the bromance between Rudd and Segel in I Love You Man.
I saw an episode of CSI the other day and Segel made an appearance as one of the geeky forensic scientists, I wonder if the rest of the CSI cast was able to see foresee then that they would get stuck doing television for the rest of their lives but they were in the presence of a future comedy movie star.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Jason Segel has signed on to star alongside his buddies Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman in THE ADVENTURER’S HANDBOOK to be directed by Akiva Schaffer.
Hill, Matt Spicer, and Max Winkler sold the script to Universal which bought the screen rights earlier this year. Inspired by the stories in Mick Conefrey’s book The Adventurer’s Handbook: Life Lessons From History’s Great Explorers, the movie is about four childhood friends who are bored with the monotony of their lives and embark on a global adventure. I’m sure the type of humor would be R-rated raunchy as usual, Apatow gang wouldn’t settle for PG-13 comedy.
Segel will play a talented backup piano player and an alcoholic, Hill plays an engineer, isolated from his family, and Schwartzman will play a spoiled three-time Grammy winner.
Jason Segel Singing DRACULA'S LAMENT
One of the highlights of the funny comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall last year was actor Jason Segel singing the song Dracula’s Lament. At the recent screening of his upcoming movie I Love You, Man in Chicago, at the Q&A session, he was asked to sing it again and so he did. Check out the vibrant video above, Paul Rudd helped out with the mics.
Segel’s Idea for THE MUPPETS
You’ve heard it before HERE that Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has always wanted to do a MUPPETS Movie. He pitched the idea in and Disney liked it. So the question ever since has been: what is it that Jason Segel has in mind for the storyline?
This guy is known for his association with Judd Apatow, meaning the movies have been raunchy comedy with F-bombs and pot jokes, which are funny I admit, but I’d hate to see Kermit and his friends start smoking joints and laughing about who got laid.
But now, CHUD seems to hear bits and pieces about what Segel’s going to do with the some of the most beloved characters of all time.
According to the website, THE MUPPETS will go back to basic.
None of those bullcrap “The Muppets in space” or “go underwater” anymore.
Apparently their Muppet film is going to be incredibly old fashioned, with the familiar Muppet characters putting on a show to save an old theater (the theater from The Muppet Show?). The danger? An evil character wants to tear the place down to get at the oil underneath
That’s a relief. If this is true, then I’m glad THE MUPPETS will be in good hands. Anybody who came up with this idea for the plot deserves a chance.
Questions:
What do you think about the idea for the story?
What would be your suggestion?
