I got a feeling this one’s going to be one slow movie in the process because Johnny Depp is a super busy dude. THE LONE RANGER movie which was declared last summer as one of Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming summer blockbuster missions is still moving forward and Heat Vision said scribe Justin Haythe who adapted Revolutionary Road, has been hired by Disney to write the screenplay, which had screenwriting team Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio previously attached… Read the rest of this entry »
THE LONE RANGER Script Review
This past summer, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that THE LONE RANGER movie based on the classic series, is going to happen later, possibly after PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE and for a while we know that Johnny Depp is very much interested in playing Tonto the sidekick. The name Mike Newell (Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time) was rumored to helm but the project currently doesn’t have a director attached. George Clooney was once rumored to be interested in playing the masked hero of the old west. I think he’d be perfect. So far, this project is filed under ‘in development’, in the time being, IESB’s Ghost has read the script… Read the rest of this entry »
Big Screen ALIEN LEGION
In a recent USA TODAY article, it was revealed that screenwriting team behind 3:10 To Yuma, Wanted and the upcoming The A-Team, scribes Derek Haas and Michael Brandt is going to pen the screenplay for the movie version of ALIEN LEGION, which will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney. The script is currently in its third rewrite… Read the rest of this entry »
PRINCE OF PERSIA International Trailer
If you didn’t like the domestic trailer yesterday, maybe you’ll enjoy the international trailer for PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME a lot better. I’m not completely against it because this movie has the potential to take you on a wild roller coaster ride. The VFX isn’t that impressive and Jake Gyllenhaal’s non-Persian appearance may throw you off but if there’s one thing Jerry Bruckheimer’s good at is producing summer blockbusters so let’s give him and director Mike Newell the benefit of the doubt shall we. Thanks to traileraddict, you can watch it after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »
PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME Official Trailer
No more lo quality, Disney has released the official trailer for PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, via IGN, and you can watch it using the media player below. I know it’s a Mike Newell-directed movie, but it looks awfully a lot like a Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) movie, don’t you think? Watch the trailer after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Bruckheimer Gets Writer Straczynski For SHATTERED UNION Movie
Another one bites the dust. Another video game based movie is in the works and though I’m not much of a gamer, I gotta say, I’m intrigued by this particular concept. According to Variety, super producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean) has hired scribe J. Michael Straczynski to pen the adaptation of SHATTERED UNION, a turn-based tactics video game developed by PopTop Software and published by 2K Games in 2005… Read the rest of this entry »
PRINCE OF PERSIA Movie Pitch Video
Back in 2003, the PRINCE OF PERSIA game creator, Jordan Mechner wanted to convince Bruckheimer and Disney studio execs that the game is big screen material, that it can be turned into a movie. So Mechner went and made a 2 minute trailer edited out of PlayStation 2 game capture footage from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. He excluded some of the game trademark elements like the freeze and fast-forward.. and he emphasized the action/adventure, the one thing that would get those big people sold on the idea. Mechner now has released this pitch video online, via his blog, which you can watch using this vibrant video after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »
Bruckheimer Takes Another Shot At APACHES With O’Keefe and Staples
Jerry Bruckheimer has an unfinished business, it’s in his bucket list. Sure he’s brought us all kinds of franchises from left to right on both movies (Pirates Of The Caribbeans) and TV (CSI) but this one single project has been haunting him for the past decade and he’s going to try to tackle it once and for all. According to Variety, Jerry Bruckheimer Films has hired writers Sean O’Keefe and Will Staples to adapt APACHES based on the novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra the man who wrote Sleepers.
The project has been in development since 1997 when Bruckheimer bought the books for Touchstone to make as a franchise. Since then, many screenwriters have come and gone trying to adapt the book, scribes like Marshall Todd (Bad Boys II), John Ridley, John Fusco (The Forbidden Kingdom) and David Klass (Walking Tall) but all of them have failed. So the pressure is on for O’Keefe and Staples
I haven’t read APACHES yet, but I need to especially that the book already has a sequel titled CHASERS
Regarding the plot, think of it as The Magnificent Six, if you will. 6 great old cops forced to work on other things besides what they love doing, busting crime. But they’ve had enough, they bring their expertise together to form a renegade unit called APACHES, not sanctioned by NYPD.
They got some cool nicknames too… Boomer, Dead-Eye, Pins, Geronimo, Reverend Jim and Mrs. Columbo
Here’s the official synopsis of the book…
“It is the early 1980s. Crack cocaine has made its devastating appearance. Violence is escalating and so is an unnerving lack of morality. Things are happening that have never happened before. One of those things is the brutal kidnapping of an innocent 12-year-old girl. But the kidnapper has made a deadly mistake. He has brought Boomer Frontierie back to life, back to the streets. And back into action. A New York City detective forced to retire after being wounded in a drug bust, Boomer thirsts to return to the life he loved–the life of a cop. When an old friend turns to him for help, Boomer has the excuse he needs. And when the simple kidnapping turns into something more, something much more evil, even more horrifying, Boomer realizes that he can once again find a way to serve justice. There are others like Boomer. Cops who can no longer be cops. He brings them together, bringing them back to life as well. Even as they face almost certain death. Apachesis the story of an extraordinary band of cops. Some might call them criminals. Some might call them heroes. But theirs is a world where good is always shadowed by bad, where right is almost indecipherable from wrong, and where the living can, within mere moments, cross over to the world of the dead.”
Bruckheimer Is Going To SHAKE It With Haas
If you don’t know the name Derek Haas by now, please put that name in your library of movies right now, that space in your brain right next to Thalamus, I really don’t know what I’m talking about, I slept through my high school science classes for pete’s sake. Derek Haas is one of Hollywood’s prominent screenwriters, with partner scribe Michael Brandt they’ve brought us 3:10 to Yuma remake and last year’s Wanted. He’s also heavily involved in the story process for The A-Team movie and Beverly Hills Cop IV.
But what’s admirable about Haas is that he doesn’t forget his roots or his peeps, writers everywhere. He’s got this website called popcornfiction.com which is basically a place where new popular short fiction could flourish, and Hollywood could have a new resource for cultivating great ideas. A safe haven in which TV and film writers could showcase their pulpy short fiction
Super producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently visited the site and loved Haas’ short story SHAKE about an FBI agent chasing a killer while he begins to lose control of his own body, as a matter of fact if you go to that website right now, the whole story is still there on the main page for you to read.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer has bought the rights to SHAKE for a seven figure deal and also hired Haas to expand the story into a feature screenplay for a potential Disney filim
COWBOY BEBOP Screenwriter, Peter Craig, To Write BAD BOYS 3
Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you for the third time?! Hollywood Reporter said that Columbia Pictures has hired Peter Craig who wrote the adaptation COWBOY BEBOP live action movie starring Keanu Reeves, to write BAD BOYS 3
Now keep in mind, that at this very moment, not Will Smith, not Martin Lawrence, not Jeremy Bruckheimer, not even director Michael Bay has signed a deal to return for the third installment but they’ve always talked about willing to collaborate again.
A while back, I wrote an observation article on Michael Bay’s movies since his first directorial debut and I gotta say, and I know I’ll be a minority on this one, but I did enjoy previous movie, that high speed chase scene on Miami highway where even a boat flew over Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett’s car was pretty cool, and that 360 degree sweet camera action panning around Will Smith holding two fire power guns in a wing formation.
The first Bad Boys earned $66 million domestically and $141 million worldwide and Bad Boys II earned $138 million domestically and $273 million worldwide.
The only obstacle for BAD BOYS 3 is coming up with a nice deal that would get all the players to sign. I remember Michael Bay once said that the only problem is that they’re all making too much money now. To hire him or Will Smith isn’t as affordable as it used to be back in 2003.
