Movies That Put Me To Sleep
Have you ever ever watched a movie so slow, you slept halfway through so you’re forced to get a another viewing again just to finish the story? I didn’t watch The English Patient in theaters years ago, I watched it on VHS back then when I was living in Asia and boy did that movie put me to sleep or what! Yes I get it, Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas did a bang up job but their moments made me numb, at one point I was literally staring at the screen, eyes wide open but my mind was going some place else, it was like a cinematic brain freeze, I found the interaction between Juliet Binoche and Naveen Andrews to be more appealing.
So there I was, sitting on the couch, I couldn’t finish the movie because I fell asleep but since it was Oscar winner in so many categories, I was determined not to declare defeat. So I picked up where I left off the next day and there was about 20 minutes left before the movie ended and then I slept again, so I finally finished watching The English freakin’ Patient on the third viewing.
And then I got up and said out loud in anger ‘How the hell did this win Oscar instead of Jerry Maguire!’
Other movies in recent year that have put me to sleep were Suspect Zero, Michael Clayton, which were odd because they were supposed to be thrillers, and don’t even get me started on Alexander. Great production but it was one big giant blah. It’s as if Rosario Dawson’s big breasts were just there to wake people up.
This year it was comedy that almost put me to sleep. Year One, Next Day Air, Land Of The Lost.
I liked Lawrence of Arabia, it was a masterpiece, but that’s another movie that I had to finish in the second or third viewing so not all movies that have put me to sleep was because they were slow and boring. Just like in the olden days, sometimes you just need an intermission.
