Mike Newell

I remember following this on the news a few years back, I remember the image of that patient above like it was yesterday because the media was covering his condition and the situation surrounding it like crazy. This KGB spy dude named Alexander Litvinenko accused Russian President Vladimir Putin for being involved in him being poisoned by polonium-2010 as he lied in his hospital deathbed in London. I was watching the coverage and I was thinking ‘man, conspiracy stuff, like straight out of a movie’… Read the rest of this entry »

THE LONE RANGER Script Review

This past summer, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that THE LONE RANGER movie based on the classic series, is going to happen later, possibly after PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE and for a while we know that Johnny Depp is very much interested in playing Tonto the sidekick. The name Mike Newell (Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time) was rumored to helm but the project currently doesn’t have a director attached. George Clooney was once rumored to be interested in playing the masked hero of the old west. I think he’d be perfect. So far, this project is filed under ‘in development’, in the time being, IESB’s Ghost has read the script… Read the rest of this entry »

PRINCE OF PERSIA International Trailer

Prince Of Persia1

If you didn’t like the domestic trailer yesterday, maybe you’ll enjoy the international trailer for PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME a lot better. I’m not completely against it because this movie has the potential to take you on a wild roller coaster ride. The VFX isn’t that impressive and Jake Gyllenhaal’s non-Persian appearance may throw you off but if there’s one thing Jerry Bruckheimer’s good at is producing summer blockbusters so let’s give him and director Mike Newell the benefit of the doubt shall we. Thanks to traileraddict, you can watch it after this jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Newell To Direct THE LONE RANGER

According to Production Weekly Twitter, Filmmaker Mike Newell is in talks to direct the big screen adaptation of THE LONE RANGER at Disney with the script written by Terry Rossio & Ted Elliott
I’m glad Newell is getting this job, because to me, Harry Potter and the Goblets of Fire which he directed, was the best one in the franchise.
Newell also directed next year’s summer blockbuster, PRINCE OF PERSIA: SANDS OF TIME starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, THE LONE RANGER project so far only has one big name attached to to star, Johnny Depp as the Native American sidekick Tonto, I’m still not sure why, he could easily be the lead instead and have actor Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers) play Tonto instead but hey, I’m not the casting director.

So far, here’s the plot..
The Lone Ranger’s origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto (Johnny Depp), who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.
