PIRATE RADIO Trailer
Last week, Focus Features premiered the domestic trailer for PIRATE RADIO previously titled The Boat That Rocked (check out the posters), the upcoming comedy from the director of Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Richard Curtis on VH1.com.
I’ve actually seen this film because for some reason there they kept having the test screenings frequently I might add, I tell ya this trailer has been toned down because it actually has more.. revealing parts.. to offer, which isn’t such a bad thing.
But I hate this new title, it sounds too simple and obvious, they don’t call George Clooney’s Up In The Air.. “collecting miles and metaphors”.. I liked The Boat That Rocked, that one was catchier.
But the movie itself is entertaining and I hope you’d enjoy it as much as I did. Here’s to Rock n’ Roll! Cheers!
Story: Pirate Radio is the high-spirited story of how 8 DJs love affair with Rock n Roll changed the world forever. In the 1960s this group of rouge DJs, on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic, played rock records and broke the law all for the love of music. The songs they played united and defined an entire generation and drove the British government crazy. By playing Rock n Roll they were standing up against the British government who did everything in their power to shut them down. The band of rebels is lead by The Count, played by the Academy Award Winning Philip Seymour Hoffman, Quentin the boss of Radio Rock, Gavin the greatest DJ in Britian, Midnight Mark, Doctor Dave and Young Carl who comes of age amidst the chaos of sex, drugs and rock n roll. The film features an unbelievable selection of music including The Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, David Bowie, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens just to name a few. The film is laugh out loud funny and speaks to the rock n roll rebel in all of us.
PIRATE RADIO opens November 13th, 2009
SCOTT PILGRIM Vs. PAUL
The new age of Video blog has arrived! Two separate blogs can now connect with just one stinkin’ Frisbee. Director Edgar Wright of SCOTT PILGRIM Vs. THE WORLD will show you how that works as he tries to send his greetings to his Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost who are currently filming PAUL… O and special appearance by angry director Greg Motolla (Superbad)
PAUL Video Blog: Simon and Nick introduce the story, cast and crew
I’ve seen this weekend’s movies, don’t worry, I’m going to post the reviews soon enough. Juggling too many things on a Friday has its consequences. But before I go and take care of some business. Check out the vibrant video above form whatispaul, a new video blog on the set of PAUL, the new comedy by Brit comedians Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) about 2 geeks who encounter an alien. Here, Simon and Nick give us a more detailed look at the cast and crew that even reveals funny lady Jane Lynch in character as the Diner lady.
Jane Lynch's Role In PAUL
Jane Lynch is one of the funniest women on earth. Whether it’s TV or big screen gig, she’ll leave an impression because most of the time, her character would say the darnedest things ever, especially in Christopher Guest movies (For Your Consideration, A Mighty Wind, Best In Show).
Some of my favorite lines last year was said by Lynch in the hilarious comedy Role Models, here’s to refresh your memory..
“Me and the judge have a special relationship… I don’t wanna get too graphic but I sucked his dick for drugs.”
“You know what I used to have for breakfast? Cocaine. Know what I had for lunch? Cocaine.”
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Mr. Bullshit and Dr. I’m-full-of-shit?”
Collider had a chance to chat with Lynch who revealed her character in the upcoming sci-fi comedy PAUL, by the 2 Brit funnymen, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost
“I play the owner of a restaurant called “The Alie-Inn”. It’s full of paraphernalia and everything and they stop at this place and they almost get beat up by these rednecks and I come to their aid.”
I can’t wait to hear what she’ll say in this movie
PAUL is the story of Graham Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost), two sci-fi enthusiasts from the UK. The film follows them on a once in a lifetime trip to America, starting with a visit to San Diego Comic Con. Having enjoyed the delights of the convention, the boys set off on a trip to Area 51 for a spot of light UFO tourism. However, their trip takes a sudden and dramatic turn when the boys happen upon a crashed government vehicle containing an Alien called Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen).
PAUL is set to open in 2010
Greetings From PAUL
The other day, we were told that there’s a production blog What Is Paul? from the upcoming sci-fi action comedy PAUL from writers/Brit funnymen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. And now it’s posted an intro vibrant video showing the duo saying hi to you from the film set in the desolate New Mexico.
The second one shows Joe Lo Truglio discusses the efforts of the film’s production to go green by saving on plastic water bottles and cups. And the third one is about Pegg, Frost and Kristen Wiig spending a day learning to drive the film’s featured RV under the watchful eye of ‘Al’.
Keep checking the blog for more updates
More PAUL Set Photos And Blog
Real quick now, we’ve seen the previous ones and now, via Peggster.net, has more set photos of PAUL, the upcoming sci-fi comedy from the stars of Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost with his now really cool long hair. Head on OVER THERE to view more.
But that’s not all, to get the fans even more excited, the movie’s official production blog What Is Paul? has been launched featuring a couple pictures and video blogs from the New Mexico set and more updates to come. Service for the blog might be unavailable for now but check back later.

PAUL is about about 2 Brit sci-fi geeks on a road trip to a convention in U.S.A., their conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter an escaped alien
Sigourney Weaver Joins PAUL. Details on Characters
The toughest girl on sci-fi, Sigourney Weaver (Sorry, Linda Hamilton!) is now back to the genre that’s been good to her. I actually wanted to post a picture of a blonde Weaver from Galaxy Quest but I think Ripley from Alien is more iconic.
According to The Playlist, Weaver has joined the awesome cast of PAUL, written by and starring the Brit duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, directed by Greg Motolla (Superbad)
Previously, it was announced that Seth Rogen will voice the alien, the title character, and a bunch of familiar names in American comedy are also in this gig including Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, and Bill Hader but their characters were unknown.. until now.. so here’s a synopsis that might contain SPOILER! but it will at least give you an idea of who plays who and what their roles are in this movie about 2 Brit sci-fi geeks on a road trip to a convention in U.S.A., their conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter an escaped alien
“PAUL” is the story of Graham Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost), two sci-fi enthusiasts from the UK. The film follows them on a once in a lifetime trip to America, starting with a visit to San Diego Comic Con. Having enjoyed the delights of the convention, the boys set off on a trip to Area 51 for a spot of light UFO tourism. However, their trip takes a sudden and dramatic turn when the boys happen upon a crashed government vehicle containing an Alien called Paul (to be voiced by Seth Rogen).
They embark upon an adventure, which sees them accidentally kidnapping a young Christian girl (Kristen Wiig) and paying a surprise visit to an old woman called Tara (Jane Lynch? Weaver?), who 60 years before pulled a stricken Paul from his crashed ship. Together, this mismatched band struggle to help Paul get home, all the while trying desperately to stay ahead of the tenacious government operative, Agent Lorenzo Zoil (Jason Bateman) and Ruth’s zealous, shot- gun toting, bible bashing father, Moses Behe. Bill Hader will play one of the bumbling FBI agents in the film
This is a comedy about being an alien in America, even if you’re not from outer space.
You’ve seen some of the early set photos, it’s in production as we speak and the movie’s scheduled to hit theaters in 2010
Word has it the cast might make an appearance at this year’s Comic-Con.. awesome!
PAUL: Set Photos
Today’s been filled with set photos. Writers/comedians Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and director Greg Motolla aren’t wasting previous time, we heard the announcement of the additional cast members yesterday and now Peggster.net has posted some photos showing them starting to work on the movie PAUL about about 2 Brit sci-fi geeks on a road trip to a convention in U.S.A., their conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter an escaped alien
The second image is particularly interesting because you can see Seth Rogen wearing some kind of special equipment, he’ll be the voice of the alien PAUL.
Doesn’t fat, long-haired, bearded Nick Frost look so jolly here? It’s like he’s got so much to feel happy about. Head on OVER THERE to see more.
Pegg And Frost Get Rogen To Voice PAUL
Holy smokes! Will we ever get tired of hearing or watching Seth Rogen?! That guy’s freakin’ everywhere. You would think that he’d take a long break to just chill and write his GREEN HORNET movie but nope, according to Variety, he’s signed on to do yet another voice work (Monsters Vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, Spiderwick Chronicles, Horton Hears A Who). This time it’s for PAUL, a new comedy by the 2 Brit funnymen, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). I got nothing against them and I hope they make movies together til they die.
The story is brilliant actually, I’m surprised no one’s thought of it before. Written by and starring none other than Pegg and Frost. It’s about 2 Brit sci-fi geeks on a road trip to a convention in U.S.A., their conspiracy dreams come true when they trek to Area 51 and encounter Paul, an escaped alien who will be voiced by Rogen.
Also cast in the movie are some more American funny people like Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, and Bill Hader.
The movie’s directed by director Greg Motolla. These guys are like best friends, they’ve worked together at one time or another.. . Hader and Rogen were in SUPERBAD which was directed by Motolla who previously cast Wiig in ADVENTURELAND. Bateman and Wiig are in the upcoming Mike Judge’s EXTRACT. Lynch was in 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN with Rogen. Thanks to Rama’s SCREEN reader Jeremy for the heads up
Six degrees of Seth Rogen, anybody?
