The Last Station

This movie made its way to Telluride Film Festival this year and Sony Pictures Classic is going to release it in limited cities this December. Hail King Paul Giamatti And IRONCLAD James Purefoy

Posted by Rama On September - 18 - 2009

Paul Giamatti James Purefoy

I can’t say enough about the wide great skills of Paul Giamatti, he can do wide range of roles and he’s as versatile as it gets. His performance in the Charlie Kaufman-like story Cold Soul in which he plays a parallel version of himself is another evidence of his abilities. It’s fair to say that in real life, he one of the kings of acting and his next gig, he gets to literally wear a crown. According to Variety, Giamatti is going to star in IRONCLAD playing King John the tyrant, co-starring James Purefoy (HBO’s Rome) who you can see later this year as SOLOMON KANE

IRONCLAD is a medieval-era action film written by Erick Kastel and English, about a memeber of the Knights Templar (Purefoy) and his Mangficient Seven who defend Rochester Castle against King John’s army.
Produced by Rick Benattar who previously produced Giamatti’s Shoot ‘Em Up..

Paul Giamatti Is Larry In Farrellys’ THREE STOOGES

Posted by Rama On August - 9 - 2009

Paul Giamatti Larry

The Farelly Brothers making THE THREE STOOGES Movie, by now all we can do is take a deep breath and surrender because this project is moving forward whether we like it or not, the good part is that The Farrellys are having a hard time of keeping their dream cast together. Not too long ago, Sean Penn who was supposed to play Larry, exited the project because of personal reasons, some say he’s taking a year off, I’d like to believe he came to his senses and realized that he made a wrong decision getting himself involved in this crapola so he said ‘See ya on the flip side’

Shortly after that co-director Peter Farelly expressed his concern that Penn’s departure might cause a domino effect. And voila! According to Boston.com, Jim Carrey who was supposed to gain weight and play Curly also said his farewell to the project.
But here’s what’s interesting… a couple of months ago, The Boston Herald recommended Paul Giamatti to replace Penn as Larry in the movie. Farelly said he’d love to have Paul but the offer already went out to someone else… Seems like somebody was bluffing because the same Boston.com also said that Paul Giamatti has signed on to be the new Larry.
Giamatti is a great chameleon actor and I have no doubt in his ability to disguise himself as Larry but it’s sad to know that he’s stooped low for this role.
Benicio Del Toro is still attached to play Moe but we’ll see how long he’ll last before changes his mind.

COLD SOULS Trailer And Poster

Posted by Rama On June - 18 - 2009

ColdSouls

The trailer for COLD SOULS has hit the web via Apple, and the poster also arrived via Impawards. I’m always looking forward to what Paul Giamatti has to offer, in hopes that any one of his next movies would finally get him the Oscar he very much deserves. That man is a talented SOB, hands down.
This movie has made its way through the festival circuits including Sundance, Cannes and Seattle. I haven’t seen it but the trailer gives me the impression like it’s a sci-fi dark comedy, something hypnotic and weird, something that Charlie Kaufman would’ve created.

SYNOPSIS:
In response to shiny, bigger, better American consumerism comes Cold Souls, a metaphysical tragicomedy in which souls can be extracted and traded as commodities. Balancing on a tightrope between deadpan humor and pathos, and between reality and fantasy, the film presents Paul Giamatti as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of Uncle Vanya. Paralyzed with anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by deep-freezing souls. Giamatti enlists their services, intending to reinstate his soul once he survives the performance. But complications ensue when a mysterious, soul-trafficking “mule,” transporting product to and from Russia, “borrows” Giamatti’s stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, soap-opera actress. Rendered soulless, he is left with no choice but to follow the trail back to bleak St. Petersburg. He comes to value that happiness isn’t merely the absence of pain, but the integration of the full range of emotion into life.Sophie Barthes’s debut feature is strikingly original, not only for its haunting concept but for its poetic execution. Inspired production design and lyrical cinematography create a melancholic, heightened world. Perfectly cast, Giamatti and a gifted ensemble maneuver seamlessly through shifting ontological landscapes without ever betraying the surrealism. With this dazzling accomplishment, Barthes establishes herself as an auteur to reckon with.

COLD SOULS opens August 7th, 2009

Hoffman Makes A VERSION Of Giamatti

Last year may be about Slumdog Millionaire, or how amazing Heath Ledger was in TDK, that’s great and all… but it was a good year for Dustin Hoffman too. Granted, the The Tale of Despereaux was a huge disappointment but his part in Kung Fu Panda and his Golden Globe nominated performance in Last Chance Harvey make us movie fans pretty grateful that the old legend is still alive and acting. He can keep up with today’s rising stars and triple threats.

Last month when it was announced that Paul Giamatti will star will in the adaptation project BARNEY’S VERSION, I thought it’d be awesome if someday Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman could star in a movie together
Little did I know that it would be a different Hoffman that would get the first honor. According to Variety, Dustin Hoffman has signed on to play Barney’s (title character) retired cop and father.
Barney, played by Giamatti, has led a reckless life highlighted by three marriages, two children and status as a “person of interest” in the mysterious disappearance of his friend. Based on the book by Mordecai Richler. To be directed by Richard J. Lewis using the screenplay adaptation by Michael Konyves. Principal photography will begin in August in Rome, Montreal, Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains and New York

A VERSION Of Giamatti

Posted by Rama On April - 23 - 2009

paul-giamatti

If you see the movies Man On The Moon and Confidence, you’d think that Paul Giamatti is just another actor stuck doing supporting roles, there was no way he’d be a leading man.. but never say never because Giamatti is now considered one of the greatest character actors of our time in the same level as Philip Seymour Hoffman who also started by doing supporting gigs in movies like Twister, both actors are also chubby by the way, just wanna put it out there for those who think Hollywood has place only for models. So you never know because even if they don’t have the looks, they sure as hell have the talents.

After watching HBO series John Adams, I’m convinced that Paul Giamatti can do anything and up next in his pocket, according to Variety, is an adaptation titled BARNEY’S VERSION based on the book by Mordecai Richler. To be directed by Richard J. Lewis using the screenplay adaptation by Michael Konyves. Principal photography will begin in August in Rome, Montreal, Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains and New York.
Here’s the official synopsis of the book
Barney Panofsky–whose trashy TV company has made him a small fortune–recalls with nostalgia and pain his young manhood in the Paris of the early ’50s, and his lifelong passion for wine, women, and the Montreal Canadiens.
