10 Most Pulse-Pounding Thriller Movies Of 2009

Thriller

The cat and mouse game of connecting the dots and racing against time, you gotta love thrillers. The intensity and the rush keep your heart pumping. 2009 was a lukewarm year for this particular genre because movies like The Box, Whiteout, The Stepfather, The Taking Of Pelham 123, and Obsessed gave it a bad name. But here’s my list of 10 Best thriller movies of 2009 in order of awesomeness, after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Tarantino

I know, Quentin Tarantino talks and I know we’ve been hearing the possibility of KILL BILL VOL. 3 for quite some time now but hey, it’s better to keep on hoping for something like that to happen way in the future than to actually hear about SHOWGIRLS 2 actually happening anytime soon.
Via Variety, Tarantino might wait a few more years until it’s the 10th Anniversary of Kill Bill Vol. 2 before he deals with the third installment, in the meantime, there are a couple of other genres that he wants to tackle…

the filmmaker said he wanted to give Uma Thurman’s central character and her daughter Beebe 10 years of peace before the next bloody installment, which would push the project to 2014.
In a conference alongside “Basterds” star Eli Roth, Tarantino said that there would be one film in between, saying he was “wide open” to his next project. Tarantino added that he would like to do a “re-imagining” of a number of genres including a Western or a 1920s to ’30s “Pretty Boy Floyd” type gangster movie.

To be fair, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown were all gangster movies, they just weren’t period gangster movies like Michael Mann’s PUBLIC ENEMIES. I think a movie about Pretty Boy Floyd would be an awesome idea, he was played by Channing Tatum in Mann’s movie, Floyd was shot and killed by FBI agent Melvin Purvis.
As far as Western, I’m surprised Tarantino hasn’t made one after all these years claiming to be big fans of Spaghetti Western flicks, Tarantino co-starred in Sukiyaki Western Django which I highly recommend, a stylized fight of Samurais and guns, what an awesome movie with lots of dialogue too, just the way Tarantino likes it.
By the way, my friend Sebastian of Tarantino Archives has an info saying that INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS might arrive on Blu-Ray and DVD in some places before Christmas, head on OVER THERE for details.

New PUBLIC ENEMIES Featurette

Posted by Rama On June - 28 - 2009

This coming weekend, one of the best movie of the year will hit theaters nationwide (Check out my review), traileraddict has a new featurette for PUBLIC ENEMIES, showing a behind the scenes look at how they are able to make the film seem like it was shot in 1934. It also shows how they were able to film in the exact same locations that Dillinger lived and escaped from. It’s cool to know that those houses are still standing and the bullet holes are still there, very authentic.

PUBLIC ENEMIES Featurette

Posted by Rama On May - 31 - 2009

Here’s a new featurette for PUBLIC ENEMIES, the upcoming thriller/action by director Michael Mann, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. The vibrant video above features Mann talking about what made Dillinger so infectious and charismatic. Depp and Bale mention that The Great Depression was what made the public idolize Dillinger and the clip shows that one of the famous bank robbers in U.S. history has a weakness, he cares too much. Overall, it was a helluva movie to watch,

The character posters for PUBLIC ENEMIES have hit the web from Universal Pictures, I wish wearing gangsta hats like these could be considered cool fashion again. I know you’ve heard it way too many times here but what the hell, I’ve seen the movie and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. It was that damn good! Cat-and-mouse game between Depp and Bale’s characters is so entertaining you won’t even realize that the runtime is more than 2 hours.

New Images: INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS And PUBLIC ENEMIES

Posted by Rama On May - 1 - 2009

It’s Friday night over here, got nothing much to do except for some chores, my room like a hellhole and cleaning up is not in my gene so this is going to be a very challenging task, much more difficult than trying to get Megan Fox to notice me. What, you’re saying that that day will never happen?! Never say never, my friend.
EW has a collection of images from upcoming summer movies, some are old and some are ordinary, so I decided to just post these 2 new cool ones.
The one above is Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine in Quentin Tarantino’s WWII brutal drama INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. It’s Pitt and the edge of his knife which he so proudly brags in the trailer. G.I. JOE is not the one to end this year’s summer movies season with a bang, BASTERDS is and I’ll be damned if any other title tries to claim that throne.

The one below is Johnny Depp as mobster John Dillinger in Michael Mann’s thriller PUBLIC ENEMIES. As I mentioned before, I have seen this movie and loved every minute of it. This image I believe is from a scene where Dillinger witnessed his girlfriend being captured by the FBI and there was nothing he could do to stop it.. Oops.. I’ve said too much.
By the way, Christian Bale is in this movie too. All the more reason to anticipate it and rob some banks,.. well, maybe not that last part.

Whatup, everyone! This is yours truly and I’m happy to say that I’ve seen PUBLIC ENEMIES, the upcoming thriller starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, at a screening last night and the movie was absolutely incredible. It was an full on cat-and-mouse chase game aimed to thrill right from the start. I have the review ready but I’m saving it as a draft and won’t be publishing it until nearing the movie’s release date which is July 1st, 2009 but I thought I’d give you a tease of how awesome it was. When I told this to my friend Sam, he was skeptical because he thinks Michael Mann’s endings usually disappoint him but I guarantee.. you’ll be impressed with PUBLIC ENEMIES. Probably Mann’s best work yet, and definitely one of the best firepower gangster movies since The Untouchables. After the mutant with claws, giant robots, and a flying house, PUBLIC ENEMIES is going to follow up with a bang.
By the way, I got to meet director Michael Mann, (Heat, Collateral, Ali, Miami Vice) he was there at the screening.. shook his hand, told him great job on PUBLIC ENEMIES, unfortunately I didn’t get to interview him, but encountering one of the coolest directors of our time gives a damn good feeling. Awestruck would be the word describe it.

PUBLIC ENEMIES 2nd Trailer

The new trailer for the upcoming Michael Mann’s thriller PUBLIC ENEMIES has arrived online via MSN. In comparison to the previous trailer, this new one is not as fast-paced, it doesn’t have much firepower, but it does show the dramatic mood of the storyline and the characters that we’re going to see in the movie. As always, in any attempt to capture anybody, they’re going to get to the girl he loves in order to get to him.
Starring Johnny Depp as mobster John Dillinger and Christian Bale as the Feds that’s going to try to bring him down.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

In the action-thriller “Public Enemies,” acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover’s fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.

No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.

But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI.”

However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis’ men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous “Lady in Red” to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
