It’s a shame that Law Abiding Citizen only earned $52 Million domestically, I thought it was a smart thriller that didn’t get a fighting chance. But Gerard Butler isn’t giving up, his next gig will pair him up with an Oscar caliber Brit thesp who knows how to deliver a powerhouse performance in every role he plays on screen… Read the rest of this entry »
Movies That Put Me To Sleep
Have you ever ever watched a movie so slow, you slept halfway through so you’re forced to get a another viewing again just to finish the story? I didn’t watch The English Patient in theaters years ago, I watched it on VHS back then when I was living in Asia and boy did that movie put me to sleep or what! Yes I get it, Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas did a bang up job but their moments made me numb, at one point I was literally staring at the screen, eyes wide open but my mind was going some place else, it was like a cinematic brain freeze, I found the interaction between Juliet Binoche and Naveen Andrews to be more appealing.
So there I was, sitting on the couch, I couldn’t finish the movie because I fell asleep but since it was Oscar winner in so many categories, I was determined not to declare defeat. So I picked up where I left off the next day and there was about 20 minutes left before the movie ended and then I slept again, so I finally finished watching The English freakin’ Patient on the third viewing.
And then I got up and said out loud in anger ‘How the hell did this win Oscar instead of Jerry Maguire!’
Other movies in recent year that have put me to sleep were Suspect Zero, Michael Clayton, which were odd because they were supposed to be thrillers, and don’t even get me started on Alexander. Great production but it was one big giant blah. It’s as if Rosario Dawson’s big breasts were just there to wake people up.
This year it was comedy that almost put me to sleep. Year One, Next Day Air, Land Of The Lost.
I liked Lawrence of Arabia, it was a masterpiece, but that’s another movie that I had to finish in the second or third viewing so not all movies that have put me to sleep was because they were slow and boring. Just like in the olden days, sometimes you just need an intermission.
CEMETERY JUNCTION Promo Teaser
The promo teaser for Ricky Gervais‘ new comedy CEMETARY JUNCTION hit the web via MSN. The vibrant video doesn’t show anything from movie, it’s basically Gervais and co-director Stephen Merchant making fun of the great Ralph Fiennes for his drama career instead of comedy and the fact that he didn’t win Oscar for Schindler’s List.
Ralph Fiennes, Lord Of The Underworld
I think Ralph Fiennes got snubbed for his role in The Reader, he should’ve at least been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but I know, it still wouldn’t have made a big difference anyway since the great Heath Ledger would’ve still won no matter what.
The man who is Lord Voldemort this summer in Harry Potter 6 will be another Lord in yet another big budget movie. According to Variety, Ralph Fiennes is in final talks to play what he’s always good at, a bad guy, the character Hades, Lord of the Underworld, in the remake movie CLASH OF THE TITANS, to be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk)
The report also confirms that Liam Neeson, despite the recent loss of his wife last month, would still play Zeus in the movie along with other stars that have previously joined the cast which includes: Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos and Sam Worthington
Ralph Fiennes on one side while Liam Neeson on another, this is going to be a great gathering of thesps. For the record, it must be tough returning to work after a loss of a loved one. Most people would find it hard to come back from that.. maybe because acting is what keeps him going, whatever Liam Neeson’s reason may be, I’m glad he’s not quitting like what the rest of the other talented actors are doing these days.
A remake of the 1981 mythical adventure film about the myth of Perseus. To win the right to marry his love (Andromeda) and fufill his destiny, Perseus must complete various quests and battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda. The special effects creatures in the 1981 film were created by stop-motion FX master Ray Harryhausen.
CLASH OF THE TITANS opens March 26th, 2010
