Rama’s SCREEN reader Frankie pointed me to this article at Vulture which I find interesting because all this time we’ve been led to believe that the only reason that SPIDER-MAN 4 got dropped and completely replaced by a reboot was because the studio couldn’t agree with Sam Raimi on the script, blaming it mostly on the studio for not wanting to give Raimi what he wanted. Yesterday the world was stunned by the info about SPIDER-MAN 4 being eliminated altogether to make way for SPIDER-MAN reboot which will take Peter Parker back to his teenage years as he grapples with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises. As we all know, SPIDER-MAN 4 hit a bump on the road. So much so that THOR decided to take May 6th, 2011 and all because they just couldn’t agree on the script, director Sam Raimi hated all the versions that have been done, and now it comes down to scribe Alvin Sargent, who co-penned Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. With all this mess and uncertainty, Columbia still hangs on to May 5th release date even when it’s already deemed unlikely. UPDATE: Variety says Sony still wants to release SPIDER-MAN 4 on May 5 so if the studio gets to keep that date, Paramount would have move THOR again but it’s gonna be tough getting May 20 back from PIRATES 4. Isn’t this fun?! Fight, fight, fight!

Yoink! And just like that, THOR and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 took advantage of SPIDER-MAN 4 being put on hold due to script problem. O boy, here’s another round of will the world ever get to see SPIDER-MAN 4?! Honestly though, is there anything more amusing than wondering when Peter Parker get to swing from one NY building to another again. Last month, IESB said because there were disagreements between director Sam Raimi and the execs at Sony (Columbia) about which character should be the next villain. Whoa! What is going on here?! IESB reported that SPIDER-MAN 4 has been put on hold. I hope the act of Disney stopping all its projects didn’t get contagious. There are 2 unfortunate reasons to this mess. The script isn’t completely finished and there’s creative disagreement over which character should be the next villain and from the sound of it, there’s been a bit of a tension between director Sam Raimi and execs at Columbia Pictures. Ok, Welcome to today’s edition ‘who wants to be Black Cat in SPIDER-MAN 4!’ or some of us would say ‘o no, here we go again!’ We got Rachel McAdams, but she said no, and then we got Romola Garai but we haven’t heard from her since, and then there’s Julia Stiles, these rumors just keep on coming. So I’m not going to waste too much time on this. Nikki Finke said producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the fourth installment of your friendly neighborhood film. Hathaway can next be seen in the upcoming Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND in 3D, playing White Queen.
