AVATAR Is Now No.2 In All-Time Domestic. THE DARK KNIGHT Got Kicked
![]()
Damn, Damn, Damn! Ha! I can’t believe one of the most awesome movies of all time, The Dark Knight got kicked by AVATAR which I didn’t even consider as one of the best of the last decade. Boxofficemojo has the results and The Dark Knight moved down to no. 3 while AVATAR took no.2 in all-time domestic B.O. banking $552.7 Million.. it’s closing in on Titanic which still holds the throne with $600.7 Million. It’s only a matter of time though.
Worldwide total, AVATAR’s $1.836 billion is also going to catch up to and beat Titanic’s $1.843 billion.
Cameron is about to set another record with yet another movie. Unfreakin’believable!

NEW MOON already broke the midnight opening record and now it has officially stolen the Single Day throne from The Dark Knight by earning $71 million on Friday at 4,024 theaters, last year Nolan’s great sequel earned $67.1 million. BATMAN Can Run But He Can’t Hide
It is a mystery how Batman can one minute talk with you and another minute he just vanishes into thin air. I mean, why does he feel the need to do a magic trick like that?! Collegehumor imagines what it would be like if our caped crusader wasn’t as smooth as he made himself to be. Watch the hilarious vibrant video below… Read the rest of this entry »
Ledger Wanted To Get Fired From TDK
Earlier this year, I posted an observation article titled What Would Heath Ledger Do? commemorating one year after his death, admiring the late great actor’s dedication to the work and how unlike any other actor his age, Ledger turned down teen rom-com heartthrob roles for gig that would challenge his skills, wondering what he would say when accepting the Oscar for one of the greatest supporting performances of all time. Read the rest of The Article.
Peter Biskind of Variety found out more about Ledger’s rocky relationship with Michelle Williams that led to custody battle that practically bothered Ledger’s sleep. Parnassus director Terry Gilliam talked about how Ledger didn’t care about the Oscars and how he would still come to work even when he was clearly sick because if he went home, he’d be thinking about the situation instead of resting so he chose to do what he loved best instead.
One interesting note, again the emphasis on the fact that Ledger was never about the awards, to him it was all about the art of acting, the ability to disappear into character. He was not big on doing summer blockbuster movies
“was always hesitant to be in a summer blockbuster, with the dolls and action figures and everything else that comes with one of those movies. He was afraid it would define him and limit his choices.”
The reasons he signed on for The Dark Knight were for 2 reasons..
- The unusually long production that would give him an excuse to turn down other offers
- He had a pay-or-play deal, meaning he’d get compensated for TDK no matter what, that’s why he felt he had the freedom to do whatever he wanted as the Joker because he hoped his performance would be so far-out he’d be fired, and he’d enjoy a lengthy, paid vacation.

The more time has gone by since he left us, the more I have respect for this man. He was truly one of a kind.
I remember Johnny Depp also used to be considered a man that was just about his work, not the glory.. but then he gave into Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. I still think Depp is a great actor but I don’t think he had the intention of purposely getting fired from his movies.

The 2009 Saturn Awards, which honors Science-Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, was held yesterday (Check out the nominees) and I didn’t get to rant about it but if you’re curious as to which movie won the most nods, it’s The Dark Knight. No BATMAN 3 For Nolan?
While I was away on vacation, this one particular info was something that I knew I had to talk about as soon as I return. Batmanonfilm listed a few reasons, from its sources, of why director Christopher Nolan who we should forever thank for bringing us 2 excellent Batman movies (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) might not return for a third installment.
One reason is that Nolan was rocked pretty hard when Heath Ledger died and being that Nolan has always been a man who focuses on one film at a time, The Dark Knight was going to be just it for him and there was no sequel in mind.
The other reason is that The Joker was supposed to return in BATMAN 3 but we all know that’s nearly impossible now. I say ‘nearly’ because some fans have brought up who they thought could be potential candidate to replace Ledger, but let’s face it.. how on earth can any actor top Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker?!
The last reason being.. if there was to be a BATMAN 3, it might not even happen until at least 2013. So as of now, there’s no such thing as a story idea BATMAN 3.
All this time we’ve been told that Nolan was taking some time off and then we now know that he’s been working on his ‘in-between’ project, THE INCEPTION starring Leonardo DiCaprio in hopes that it would bring him back to Batman franchise just like what The Prestige did but don’t keep your hopes up.
If only Heath was still alive, all of this would’ve been a done deal a long time ago, but what can you do.
Worst case scenario, the report also states that WB does have a shortlist of other directors they’ll turn to the minute Nolan officially says no to BATMAN 3.
Maybe we don’t need a sequel to The Dark Knight, maybe we should just stop Batman movies alltogether and admire Nolan’s 2 masterpieces for years to come.. but you know Hollywood doesn’t think that way.
So humor me.. who do you think would have what it takes to replace Nolan and direct BATMAN 3?
Keep in mind that Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) already said he’s not interested.. that’s a relief. I’d hate to see Batman fight The Riddler in bullet time.
