Why Did I Get Married Too

Lionsgate has released the full trailer for WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? via Yahoo, the Tyler Perry-directed sequel to the 2007 movie which I thought was excellent. The previous teaser oddly gave out a thriller impression, this full trailer is rather confusing too because if I’m not mistaken, I think Perry switched and recasted some roles, weren’t Perry and Janet Jackson’s characters a couple in the first movie? And don’t take this the wrong way but is it just me or does this look like an African American version of Couples Retreat?… Read the rest of this entry »

WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? Teaser

Why Did I Get Married Too

I actually enjoyed Tyler Perry’s Why Did I get Married? a couple of years ago. I thought it was one of the best, positive, overlooked films for couples out there. But after a string of Madea films, I’m gettin’ a bit tired of Tyler Perry’s style, it’s the same damn thing, it’s basically like a stage play but on the big screen. His jokes are getting old too. But I still got respect for the man for building his own empire from making money off of his target audience, African-American movie fans. Perry is a better businessman than he is a filmmaker.
The teaser for the sequel, WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? has arrived, via Yahoo. It starts out like The Couples Retreat with the exotic getaway but then bam! All of a sudden it turns into a suspense/thriller, all you can think of is ‘What The Freak is going on here?!’ and it ends with the most unattractive shot of Janet Jackson. You’ve been warned, this is not the Janet Jackson we once knew and fantasized about. Watch the teaser after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

PRECIOUS New Trailer

Precious

When I listed 10 movies that I think should get nominated for Best Picture at the next Oscars, I may have overlooked a particular title that some have called one of the best films of the year.
Here’s the new trailer for PRECIOUS released by Lionsgate. The heart-wrenching drama premiered at Sundance ‘09 and was well-received but it seems like it’s going to be nothing but a big cry,.. after watching it, some of us would feel weak and drained from all that depressing story. From Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, two people who can practically rule the world if they have both their fanbase combined.
For the record, Mariah Carey without make-up.. NOT Sexy… no maam!

Lee Daniels’s “Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire” is a vibrant, honest and resoundingly hopeful film about the human capacity to grow and overcome.

Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece “Precious” Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. She’s pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother (Mo’Nique), a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write.

Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesn’t know the meaning of “alternative,” but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain (Paula Patton), Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.

PRECIOUS opens limited November 6th, 2009

Tyler Perry Says ENUF

Why Did I Get Married and The Family That Preys weren’t bad but Meet The Browns and Madea Goes To Jail finally had me saying enough! Enough with these plays turned movies that still look like plays on screen without effective humor and any significant cinematic efforts. But of course, if there’s one filmmaker who couldn’t stop, it’s Mr. Tyler Perry and can we blame him?! The man earned $75 Million last year, say what you want about his movies, like him or hate him, Perry is a living, breathing story of success and he’s got a fanbase, an audience who’ll watch anything he does.
Tyler Perry has made his 10th movie deal with the company that’s had his back for a long time, Lionsgate. The project is called FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF
I kid you not, that is the damn title.. holy smokes! And you thought BORAT and INDIANA JONES 4 were mouthful
This is going to be Perry’s first work that’s not his original creation, it’s based on Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 play about a poetic exploration of what is to be of color and a female in this world.
Perry will write, direct and produce and the movie will feature an all-star cast of female actors… they’re probably going to be mostly African-American.
Production will start in Atlanta this November and the movie will be released in 2010. Press release after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF Teaser

madea

Lionsgate informed that the teaser trailer for Tyler Perry’s next movie I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF has arrived via Perry’s official website: http://tylerperry.com/premiere/bad.php
By the way, if you’ve seen STAR TREK, you’d notice Perry’s cool cameo and I admire the guy for building his own empire from ground up, from homeless to millionaire, that demands respect, but… I am sick and tired of his character, Madea.
She’s gotten way too unfunny and annoying.. I can’t take it anymore.

SYNOPSIS

When Madea, America’s favorite pistol-packing grandma, catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home, she decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April. A heavy-drinking nightclub singer who lives off of Raymond, her married boyfriend, April wants nothing to do with the kids. But her attitude begins to change when Sandino, a handsome Mexican immigrant looking for work, moves into April’s basement room. Making amends for his own troubled past, Sandino challenges April to open her heart. And April soon realizes she must make the biggest choice of her life: between her old ways with Raymond and the new possibilities of family, faith…and even true love.

An uplifting drama infused with music and Tyler Perry’s trademark mixture of laughter and heart, I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF stars Perry, Taraji P. Henson, Brian White, Hope Olaide Wilson, Adam Rodriguez, Kwesi Nii-Lante Boakye and Frederick Siglar, and features dramatic and musical performances by Gladys Knight, Marvin Winans and Mary J. Blige, who performs an original song penned by chart-topping R&B writer/performer/producer, Ne-Yo.

I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF hits theaters September 11, 2009
