Iron Man 2. The first was a bit dragging, because it was the usual introduction-movie and the finale was not that great. But the effects were “thumbs up” and Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect man for the job. Also, the movie had the word ‘quality’ written all over it … at least, that’s something I felt while watching.

I guess I’m excited about Spidey 4. I though the 3th one wasn’t bad at all. It had some flaws, but hell, that summer had not one single blockbuster that was better.

Shrek 4 huh? Meh. Kill it. And Oobermind? Sounds ok, but it’s the obvious answer too ‘The Incredibles’ … only it’s Dreamworks. Dreamworks is just so forgetable.

Some said the first IRON MAN didn’t have enough action.. in a way it’s true.. but you’re right when you said the effects were “thumbs up”.. that whole flying scene with the jetplanes looked so unbelievably real.. ILM is simply amazing!

What I’m worried about IRON MAN 2 is the writer Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder).. I’m still not sure he’s the right man for the job.. but we’ll see what he has for the storyline soon enough.

    yes 2007 wasn’t really what you’d consider a great summer but I hated SPIDER-MAN 3

    Dreamworks is forgettable? Agreed.
Dreamworks animation is about quantity, not quality

I agree on the Iron Man part, also on the Dreamworks part. Quantity, that’s so true!

I don’t realy get why so many people hate SM3, but hey, maybe it’s like the fact that nobody gets why I hate ‘The Fifth Element’, so that’s ok. :)

Iron Man’s not the greatest super hero film in terms of action. It’s an origin story, so we’re not going to get too much of that. The story mainly focuses on Stark’s growth. The villain’s not entirely interesting and doesn’t show up until the end.

But what makes this soar is that it’s all about character development. I think it’s safe to say that Iron Man’s characters were the most realistic out of any super hero film. This can be seen in the dialogue and the way they communicated with each other. Tony and Pepper’s relationship was so believable in its minimalism. That scene where she has to reach down into his chest is the most intimate I’ve seen between a hero and his woman. The banter between Rhodey and Stark was also excellent. The two actors played off of each other nicely. Hopefully Cheadle will be able to bring his own charisma to the role and maintain the chemistry of the cast.

However, the action set pieces that were there were fantastic. The village rescue and jet exposition were both wonderful moments, and what’s great about them is that they developed Stark immensely. He realizes that because the weapons were his the attack is ultimately his fault so he does something about it. It’s his first sense of purpose. The second involves great interplay between Stark and Rhodey. It’s all about the comedy here. What do you do if your best friend is attacking you with jets, but he doesn’t know it’s you, and all the while you have to pretend to be in your car in LA. Wonderful.

I can’t wait for the sequel. They set themselves up perfectly to make the next one exceed the former. The cast is great. Hopefully the film will follow suit.

Oooh, and Spider-Man 3 sucked. Even Raimi knows that, so the fourth should be good.

Very well written analysis on IRON MAN, Jeremy
Excellent points, every one of them.

But once again,.. I’m worried about Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) being the writer of IRON MAN 2..
Why couldn’t they just rehire the same 4 guys who wrote the first movie?!

Can you imagine another Batman movie without Jonathan Nolan involved in the screenplay process?

  6. Jeremy says:

Well I don’t know Justin as a writer really. I know he was involved with Tropic Thunder. I wouldn’t be surprised if Robert requested Justin’s involvement. I suppose I’d worry about it being too zany? I don’t know, I thought that the first film was lighthearted enough but you still took it seriously.

We’ll see though. I have a lot of hope in it the film.
