Oscars

Wohoo!!! Sandra Bullock got a nomination!!! And look Pixar’s UP is the first animated feature to be nominated for the highest honor since Beauty and The Beast. I gotta tell ya, my predictions weren’t way off at all. I’m both surprised and glad for The Blind Side, District 9 and Maggie Gyllenhaal, I didn’t expect those three to be mentioned but it’s not like they didn’t deserve it. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and it will go live on ABC at 5 p.m. PT. Check out the complete list and my prediction on who and which movie will win, plus reactions from the nominees,..after this jump…

  • DISTRICT 9
  • AN EDUCATION
  • THE HURT LOCKER
  • INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
  • PRECIOUS
  • A SERIOUS MAN
  • UP
  • UP IN THE AIR

This is a tough one for because with the exception of AVATAR, I’m practically rooting for the rest of them. But I think it’ll come down to either AVATAR or THE HURT LOCKER. Wouldn’t it be absolutely astonishing if THE BLIND SIDE took it instead.

BEST DIRECTOR

  • James Cameron (Avatar)
  • Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)
  • Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds)
  • Lee Daniels (Precious)
  • Jason Reitman (Up In The Air)

I thought it would go to Reitman, but let’s face it after the Golden Globe and DGA Awards, it’ll be between Cameron and Bigelow for the prize.

BEST ACTOR

  • Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
  • George Clooney (Up In The Air)
  • Colin Firth (A Single Man)
  • Morgan Freeman (Invictus)

BEST ACTRESS

  • Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
  • Helen Mirren (The Last Station)

Below are some of the first reactionary quotes from nominated talents of The Weinstein Company films.  More to come…

“I thought I was managing my expectations, but on hearing the news I discovered new and unfamiliar vocal tones. Perhaps I should do another musical.”

- Colin Firth, Best Actor A SINGLE MAN

“I am completely surprised and elated. Rob Marshall is not only a genius but an absolute joy to work with. I woke up every morning excited to collaborate with this amazingly talented group of actors. Filming this movie was such a special experience and to be nominated for this role makes me so happy.”

- Penelope Cruz, Best Supporting Actress, NINE

“Quentin continues to be a trailblazer and I am honored to be on this journey with him.  This nomination is a thrill not only for me but everyone who has worked so hard to make INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS a success.  Thank you to The Weinstein Company and Universal for all of their support.”

– Lawrence Bender, Oscar nominated producer of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS for Best Picture

“Wow! This honor gives me such tremendous satisfaction. And I’d like to congratulate all the other nominees in the directing and writing categories. I’m proud to be in their company.”

- Quentin Tarantino, nominated for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay – INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (also nominated for Best Picture)

“It is such an honor for my work to be given the distinction of being in the company of the other wonderful songs and writers who have been nominated for the Academy Award. That in itself is so meaningful all on its own.. I am deeply grateful to Rob Marshall and The Weinstein Company for giving me the opportunity to create a new dramatic song for NINE  –  ‘Take It All’ – and to see the extraordinary Marion Cotillard bring it to life.”

-  Maury Yeston, Original Song Nominee “Take It All,” NINE
