I was never a gung-ho fan of Roger Ebert, I respected him as a legendary film critic but when he called Ridley Scott’s Gladiator movie “foolish, muddy, fuzzy, indistinct” that was when I stopped caring for his thumbs up thumbs down opinions. That said, I can’t belittle a man who’s still up reviewing movies even after a fight with cancer, that earned my respect once again. Ebert has compiled his list of 10 best films of 2009.. but to be fair, he’s divided it into 2 Lists.. 10 Best mainstream films and 10 Best indie films. He did say that although AVATAR is not in the list, the James Cameron 3D epic did win his annual special jury prize but Ebert still doesn’t think it’s the best film of the year. Finally after all these years, I can agree with Ebert again, at least regarding AVATAR. Check out both lists after the jump…

What the hell does Roger Ebert know??? I remember ALWAYS seeing the films he put a thumbs down on because I KNEW I’d enjoy them haha. And I loved when Siskel argued with him.
And wow… I hadn’t seen Ebert in like forever. He’s lost ALOT of weight.
No, he only lost his neck.
Yea… I read about his battle with thyroid cancer after I wrote the comment. Silly me. Should’ve investigated before making an insensitive comment. I deeply apologize to him and anyone who knows or likes him.
no worries bro… I think many people didn’t get caught up with what’s happening with him as well.
