The Twilight sequel, NEW MOON hasn’t even started production but talks about who might be the one to direct the third installment, ECLIPSE, have begun. Anne Thompson’s Variety blog reported that Juan Antonio Bayona who directed my favorite 2007 foreign language horror movie, The Orphanage, is one of the candidates, the other name is James Mangold, he helmed 3:10 To Yuma and Walk the Line.
For the record, whenever Anne Thompson says something, the appropriate response would be ‘Yes Ma’am’ but I have my doubts about these two names. Not that they’re not excellent filmmakers.. it’s just that neither of them have made movies that cater to the Twilight Target demographics, hysterical teen fangirls.
It is said that they’re both circling the project but Summit Entertainment has yet to schedule any meeting. Last month, Director Chris Weitz (Golden Compass) replaced Catherine Hardwick for NEW MOON.. and now this rumor about a new helmer for the third installment. Nobody asked Weitz yet if he wants to do ECLIPSE too? Can’t Summit Entertainment just pick one director with a vision that won’t disappoint the fans and just stick with him/her? Even Harry Potter movies often recycle their directors.
Another thing worth noting is that whatever casting info you may hear out there regarding the characters Aro and Jane and Leah Clearwater are, once again, nothing but rumors, for now, because Twilightlexiconblog found out from screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg herself that even Leah Clearwater is not in the script.

Here’s the brief official plot summary from the book jacket…

Well, I am not too surprised nor upset that they aren’t writing Leah Clearwater into the script….yet. She isn’t a big or important character in either the 2nd or 3rd book. Although she is in the 4th more, she isn’t a major figure.
I am upset over hearing that they may change the shape of the 2nd movie to include more of Edward. The reason, I believe, the author took Edward away from Bella in the second part is to show how these characters survive without each other.
I am upset over the director debate. I wish the production company would just sit with one director and hash it out. Maybe Hardwicke could do the third, since talk is already started and I think she would have more than enough time. Or stick with Weitz. Stop bouncing. It distorts the story.
Anyways, I am keeping my eyes and ears posted!

I have to say, Rana LaPine needs to be Leah Clearwater in Eclipse! She’s Native, she’s a good actress, and yeah.

I would love to play leah in the movies but i am only 12 and am 5′3. But I think they should find someone totaly new! The people in twilight were not realy famous until the movie. Why not someone new?
