The following project caught my attention because it involves The Dowdle Bros., they’re the dudes who made The Poughkeepsie Tapes but that movie still hasn’t seen the light of day despite the fact that the trailer was in theaters for quite some time. They’re also the dudes who wrote Quarantine, a remake of REC, which I thought was just as scary as the original. And they’re directing DEVIL, produced by the master of twist ending,M. Night Shyamalan. BloodyDisgusting found out that John & Drew Dowdle already have their next project lined up…

They are attached to direct the adaptation of AFRAID based on the novel by author Jack Kilborn, the project will be produced by Vincent Newman and Josh Kesselman. The plan is to have this as a beginning of a franchise and it’s described as Terminator meets Aliens.
Let’s hope this doesn’t end up hidden in the shelf for a very long time either.

Here’s the official synopsis of the book
Reminiscent of the best novels of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, AFRAID is the first novel from Headline’s newest thriller author. The idyllic town of Safe Haven , Wisconsin is a blueprint for your average mid-Western U.S. town – friendly, law-abiding and peaceful, you couldn’t find a nicer place to live. Then during one long night, everything changes. A troop of elite and ruthless international soldiers crash land in the town and it becomes immediately apparent to some of its inhabitants that the soldiers are bent on destruction. Terrifyingly ruthless, trained in unimaginable tortures and implanted with a computer chip outlining their mission, their only goals are to isolate, terrorize and annihilate their way to their quarry. Only then will their mission be complete. As the townspeople start to die in shockingly vicious and gruesome ways, the US government quarantines the town, and its remaining inhabitants are left with only one choice if they want to survive the night ndash; fight back or die trying. Unputdownable, addictive, and shocking, AFRAID is a heart-poundingly, adrenalin-fuelled novel guaranteed to send chills down your spine.
