THE INVASION Review

The invasion
I expected more from this movie, but it’s let me down. Don’t get me wrong, Nicole Kidman still looks gorgeous with those big blue eyes and the thin exquisite lips that just captures the attention when she smiles, but THE INVASION is another film that takes the word thriller and it claims it as its own when it doesn’t deserve to do so. This is… an unnecessary remake, noting that there has been several versions long before this one.

A space Shuttle crashed, and a series of strange occurrences start happening everywhere. A psychiatrist (Nicole Kidman) notices that humans aren’t acting like humans anymore. Her colleague (Daniel Craig) tries to help her find her son before it’s too late. The only thing that would keep her from becoming like them is by staying awake.
I’d turn into a creepy alien in no time cause one of the things I enjoy doing in life is taking a nap.

based on Jack Finney’s novel The Body Snatchers, this movie makes us think of the relation of science fiction with social and political dilemma. One one hand, what if invaders could come not in ships or laser guns but simply seeps in like microbes. On the other hand, the character Daniel Craig presents the good that comes out of this alternative life, if you will, people won’t have wars anymore cause everyone would be just the same.

Yes, this movie does kinda give a good level of creepiness on the humans that act strangely because they’ve been invaded by alien’s substance, but the movie just could’ve been more and much better than it is. Maybe because the length of the movie which is fairly short, making me very unsatisfied.
Some of the scenes of her being chased chased by people who are not people anymore come and go in a blink of an eye and the shock elements just aren’t surprising enough. It’s as if the filmmakers only wanted to do a quickie or that they’re bound by some sort of tight schedule that they had to get it over with as soon as possible. I do have to hand it to the make up guy who I think did a pretty good job making that gooey stuff, you’ll know what I mean when you’ve seen the film.
