Martin Scorsese The Invention Of Hugo Cabret

Is it February yet? Crap, feels like forever just to see Marty Scorsese‘s full vision of SHUTTER ISLAND. But what is Marty’s next? The biopic of blue-eyed frankie SINATRA? What about that 17th century film about two Jesuit priests SILENCE? Maybe that other Mob movie with Robert De Niro, I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES?.. hmm… THE RISE OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT perhaps? According to European Media, Via the Playlist, Scorsese is going to entertain the children first…

The report states that Scorsese is set to film the adaptation of THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET based on the best-selling children’s historical fiction book by author Brian Selznick, this coming May in Paris and then London. No confirmation about this from the Trades yet but probably just a matter of time.

I can’t remember the last time Scorsese ever did a children’s movie.. was it the one where that one kid asked how he was funny?  O nope, that was Goodfellas,.. what about that little child who drove a cab and shot the neighborhood hoodlum? nope, not that was Taxi Driver.. The words Scorsese and children’s movie don’t seem to belong in the same room.

Here’s the official synopsis of the book…
ORPHAN, CLOCK KEEPER, AND THIEF, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the station, Hugo’s undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo’s dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery.
