THE SHINING Sequel?

The Shining

Redrum! Redrum! It should’ve been a chilling, scary experience but I was laughing hard when the kid kept repeating this line again and again in The Shining. The following info is a few days old and it’s not really movie-related but I’ll share it anyway because it involves one of the great classic thrillers of the past based on the creation of the master of horror, Stephen King. Some of you may know that King has a new book out in stores called Under The Dome. They’re in the process of developing it into a series but that’s not the headline…

Turns out, via Torontoist, King has been working on the sequel to The Shining since last summer. The book will be called DOCTOR SLEEP and it centers around Danny, or as I jokingly call him the redrum kid.
The 1977 novel ended on a positive note but the sequel is going to deal with Danny’s psychic powers. The horrific events at Overlook Hotel, thanks to his psycho father, played by Jack Nicholson in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick-directed film, left Danny with emotional scars and traumatic experiences.
I’m sure studios are already lining up, ready to tap into this, but obviously nothing solid is in the works yet and who knows, maybe King won’t finish writing the book til God knows when.
I don’t mind The Shining sequel just as long as King would consider changing the title because DOCTOR SLEEP sounds more like a spoof of a James Bond movie.
By the way, Danny was played by child actor Danny Lloyd who is now a science teacher in the Midwest

Here’s the plot so far..

“Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill. Danny’s real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. Danny also has a sideline in betting on the horses, a trick he learned from his buddy Dick Hallorann.”
