The previous update that director Joe Johnston provided regarding THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA was that Rick Heinrichs was production-designing and they were prepping down in Manhattan Beach [California]. There were 8 or 10 talented artists just drawing pictures and they’re taking the story back to the ’40s. Johnston spoke to Sci-Fi Wire recently and revealed that soon enough, we’re going to have an actor who’ll play CAPTAIN AMERICA…
“We need to cast it soon,”
“We have a very short list, but we’re still juggling actors here. I’d say within the next couple of weeks we’ll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope.”
“but we’re getting ready to go to the U.K., it looks like.”
Hmm.. who do you think is on that short list? I’m sure we’ll hear announcement soon enough.
Rumors have surrounded names like Will Smith, Matthew McConaughey and more but I just don’t see any of them doing this gig because Johnston once said and he emphasized it again recently that what fascinated him is “that this 98-pound weakling, he was this wimp, and he’s transformed instantly into this Adonis. You’d think he got everything he wanted.”
Which actor you know weights 98 lbs? Maybe the skinny Christian Bale in The Machinist could’ve pulled this off.
How about Anton Yelchin? The actor who played Chekov in Star Trek. Would he be a good choice?

Yeah he got what it takes. He’s the right height, strong voice, good serious nononsense stare, Having a younger person to be captain america just wouldn’t look right.
It would so messed up when they do the avengers movie and they have some dude like Andy Serkis or that guy who’s the green arrow in Smallville screaming AVENGERS ASSEMBLE.
No way. Hauser will kill the movie. He cannot carry a film. He’s just a good supporting actor…. that’s all. Remember Paparazzi? Or The Cave? Horrible. Absolutely horrible.
As a supporting actor? Great. Like Pitch Black, Tears of the Sun, Goodwill Hunting, Hart’s War, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Breakup.
No. He’s wrong for the part. After watching the trailer of Clash of the Titans, I’m thinking Sam Worthington, but he’s probably too busy doing other projects. Or maybe Bradley Cooper, but he’ll be too busy with The Hangover 2.
If they want a twenty something year old, then maybe Chris Evans, Jensen Ackles, or Channing Tatum… ugh, maybe not Tatum haha.

Christian Bale, hands down. I know he’s already Bruce Wayne, but I can’t think of any others. Channing Tatum or Chris Evans? Really?! I hope that’s an indication of humor. Captain America deserves better than a fake street dancer and a lame Human Torch
David…. Bale is already freaking Batman and John Conner. Enough with the guy already. And if you checked my comment… I prefer Worthington or Cooper. I only mentioned Evans and Tatum cause they’re young and they have the look (not the acting chops though). Hell, I even said “ugh, maybe not Tatum” haha
All I know is they need to be careful with the casting… cause Captain America are big shoes to fill.
Good point with cole hauser. I totally forgot about the cave. I had no problem with him in paparazzi, just the third act. But I picked him casue I was thinking of the role he had in Higher learning. I know he was a skin head but if you take that kind of charisma and take out the racism. There you go.

The main thing about Captain America is leadership. So you have to have someone who can woo you with great inspirational lectures. but the main problem is most people who has that are british and aurtialians with very distint accents. Cause I was also thinking…

Someone at work said Keifer Sutherland but I think he is too old. Plus Jack bauer is already sort of Captain America.

I love Kiefer as Jack Bauer. I personally think he’s too short of stature to play Captain America but I like his acting chops.
Aaron Eckhart is a good one, but again…. too old. He’s almost 42. I do like your choice of Scott Porter (the young Racer X in Speed Racer). He’s only 30 and has the stature of a Captain America. But does he have the acting chops to go head to head with Robert Downey Jr and Edward Norton and God knows who else as the other Avenger players? I dont know. Like I said… they better be careful with the casting choice. Captain America should not be overshadowed by Starks and Banner. He’s freaking CAPTAIN AMERICA afterall. haha
That’s is a hard to cause Robert Downey Jr. nailed Tony Stark so great that really they would have to go with an older actor especially if Captain America doesn’t want to be overshadowed by Stark and Banner.
I was also thinking Josh lucas but it would have to be Glory Road and Wonderland Josh Lucas no that BS stealth Josh lucas.
But still I am wondering which captain America they are going with main captain America or Ultimate Captain America?
